If we’re having early finish gigs then have ones that finish late too (just make bands play twice in a night, that’s the way forward). Some people like to go out late, and if you don’t work office hours then getting to a venue by 8pm can be a stretch as well. One performance out by 10pm, another where the doors open at 11pm.
I genuinely thought this was going to become the norm post Lockdown as a way of reducing venue capacity and allowing distancing. It still strikes me as a good idea.
More sweet, sweet matinees at the weekends too.
I feel like it might be economically worthwhile too – band plays more shows for the same touring costs, venue gets more shows in. Obviously the band could maybe just play one bigger gig, but idk, possibly it would be cheaper to play at a smaller venue twice than a bigger venue once? I daresay there’s licensing implications for venues too, but I think it’s a sound idea.
If Prince used to often play a gig then another afterparty gig in one night, then everyone else can put in the effort too.
More all-age gigs (especially at sociable times).
It’s definitely viable, for example
Yeah, Black Midi did two shows in a day last year here too because they’d had to cancel two dates earlier in the year due to illness.

Part of what I used to hate about touring was the fact that you’d get somewhere and only get to play once. It feels like such a waste. I know it can be seen as a bit ‘work harder, musicians!’ but from my personal experience I’d have been more than happy to be doing a two-show per stop schedule, makes it feel all more worthwhile. Plus potentially double the ticket sales for the same travel etc. Playing the show is the nice bit (mostly, the last tour I did was horrible but I stand by my point)
Tonight at the brude cribs are playing 3 gigs and Jamie T is playing 2
Yeah i would be well up for the 2 gigs plan, especially combined with all ages access. Have a late pm gig so that families can go (maybe slightly quieter? ) and then a later one in the eve. Taking my kids to gigs is easier now they’re late teens but when they were younger normal gig times were a bit of a nightmare.

More bands with proper haircuts
If artists want to sell more records and tickets, then they should simply increase the quality of their music.
Was recently reading about The Beatles’ first trip to Dublin in like 1963 and they played a 6:30 show and a 9:30 show
Had a wonderful pasty at Frome Cheese and Grain when i saw Supergrass. They also sold them immediately after NIN at the Eden Project. So I’d have to say more pasties
Often wondered when we’ll have the silent disco approach to concert audio
Also there’s a rise in 360 surround sound PAs, which will focus on the quality and experience of the sound, rather than the loudness (which is often due to a sound person not being great at their job - there are a lot of inexperienced people in the industry again now as so many left because of Covid)
L-Acoustic are doing more concert PAs
I’m seeing the Mountain Goats on Thursday night at the Albert Hall in Manchester, and they’ve just sent me an email with a load of helpful info including stage times. I’ve never had anything like it before from a venue.
