Shame.
Could get a head start on becoming a Kirby pro

if Smash turns out to be really good I’m gonna declare that the switch is the best console of this generation.

and you can’t stop me!

Have I missed something or have they not announced a test-smash? Seems unusual for a big online title.

They haven’t no. Doing loads of demos across Europe though. Maybe that’s enough.

I thought it was weird but then maybe with Pokemon out in two weeks they didnt want to COMPLETELY steal its thunder or mayeb that will put enough strain on their network with almost every single Switch owner jumping into Smash within a small timeframe.

I now own 50+ games for it and I haven’t even bought anything that came out on Wii U previously bar Mario Kart 8 second hand. I can think of another 30 games I’d like.

That’s pretty incredible for 18 months.

And given Bayonetta 2 and Metroid Prime are in my top ten games ever, sequels to both coming next year alongside a new Luigi’s Mansion are welcome news indeed.

@bamnan
It’s the dream mix of:
New and best iterations of all fave Nintendo series.
Actual good 3rd party support.
Great indies consistently releasing.
Some of my fave games ever available on it now or soon (Okami, Resident Evil 4, Final Fantasy 7)

FUCK! I forgot about Bayonetta 3

Yeah, if it becomes the console to play all the classics on too from Nintendo, Neo Geo, Capcom, Square and Sega’s back catalogue then it’s got the lot.

It’ll be interesting if at the next E3 Sony and Microsoft do announce fully fledged next gen consoles and the tech starts to be a gen behind again, a la Wii U. But the install base could be so big by then that it’ll ride the wave for a few more years.

The tech is already a generation behind, the power of the other systems doesn’t seem to factor into this form factor. The One X must be like 10 times more powerful than the Switch

I mean due to climate change it’s likely to be the last generation of consoles so a strong case that the switch will be the greatest console of all time.

Well Microsoft are shifting to a mobile phone like business structure where you pay for Xbox Live/Gamepass and the Xbox monthly so I think consoles are going to be a thing for a long time.

I meant cos apparently we’re all gonna be dead within 5 years tbh

Oh right, nah we wont be dead within 5 years Bam. Maybe 7

phew, time for the first part of the FFVII remake to come out at least!

True, but for most gamers the Pro and X are still niche consoles. The gap between the original PS4 and Xbox One machines to the Switch isn’t insurmountable currently, but to those others it’s a big issue. Hence Betheseda saying ports of DOOM and Wolfenstein are fine, big open online worlds like Elder Scrolls and Fallout 76 aren’t. So there are enough 360 remasters and ports of this generations classics to mask the truth a bit. It’ll be more stark when games like Spider-Man are the base level.

(Slightly derailing the thread here, sorry)

You know even then I think it’ll be grand.
It’s getting to the stage now where very few companies/games can really push the envelop/be on the bleeding edge due to budgets/manpower etc and as you know if takes until pretty late in a consoles lifespan before devs actually get the most from the hardware. I could imagine with a very large install base most companies would continue to support Switch for quite a long time, even if it was just ports. Like if Grand Theft Auto V did release on Switch it was sell like crazy. Japanese companies will support it for a very long time to come due to how popular it is there alone. When a real Monster Hunter sequel drops on Switch it will go crazy in Japan.

Very optimistic there Bam tbf
