So, Shed Seven have a No. 1 album

What’s going on?

I thought that was Marvin Gaye

They’ve been doing very well these last few years, playing their biggest tours since forming. Their management team seem to have done a brilliant job with them.

They’ve just done a record store tour and with the amount of sales you need to get to number one combined with less young people buying albums that’s enough I guess (nearly worked for yard act)

Unfairly maligned band imo

Hearing rumours of performance enhancing drugs. Hope I’m wrong but maybe best not to celebrate too soon

Will I understand them if I haven’t heard the other 6?

This is a lovely thing to happen and they deserve it imo

Releasing the album in a week were they were literally the only record released might have a small part to play in getting to no1.

Presumably they’re getting better all the time.

We had some of the parents of kids in my kids’ school round for Hogmanay afternoon and one of them was a massive Shed Seven fan, was bigging up whatever their last album was and was soon going (or maybe has just been) to see them multiple times on a tour.

I listened to the new album last week, it was fine actually. Won’t listen again by choice but I wouldn’t mind if it was on.

I had A Maximum High with a bonus disc of B-sides in the 90s and the bonus disc got more plays than the album if I recall correctly.

Happy for them, but I believe they’ve done that thing of issuing loads of different editions of the album and thus monetising the hardcore fans that will buy them all? Then next week it’ll be at number 76. Loads of acts do this now and I don’t know that I’m even criticising them, it’s just sad that this is where we’re at in terms of what bands need to do to make a living - get larger amounts from the small number of people that still buy records.

I am simultaneously very happy for them but not much of a fan generally. I had one album, maybe their first and it was OKish, but deffo mid-tier band at the time for me.

And this is my cry for heeeelp

Was just about to make this thread. Dreadful band and they haven’t even had a big single or something to explain it, just fucking bizarre whichever way you look at it
