Instagram: dog pics and Jazzmasters
Facebook: penoid event calendars and laughing at local community groups
Twitter: reinforcing the notion that we live in the bleakest timeline and it’s only going to get worse from here
Reddit: computer games
Snapchat: DiSers
WhatsApp: getting 'er indoors to make me cups of tea
Spending less time on Twitter and mass blocking political words has been a big positive for me. Gerald Stratford and his vegetables are the best thing on there.
In my own lil bubble, Facebook is really useful for writing lengthy/weighty pieces to a select audience. I would find it easier to delete Twitter than FB.
Instagram is quite good fun in my own bubble but it’s turned into Crufts during lockdown and I have started muting people’s stories because of it.
LinkedIn: great from a work perspective in getting articles/content out there but individuals’ content is absolute drivel and you really get a sense of who people are through it (i.e. whose idea of feminism is Whitney Wolfe being the youngest female self made billionaire ). When I got made redundant I posted on there in the classic chirpy LinkedIn way about LOOKING FOR NEW OPPORTUNITIES and I wrote it through gritted fucking teeth, but I also got alerted to my current job through my previous MD tagging me in someone’s post.
The events calendar was the only thing keeping me on Facebook. The lack of gigs and Dice/google mail linking to your calendar I have managed to break the cycle. Do need to reactivate it to get all the pictures off and then delete it fully.
Instagram: what facebook & twitter feeds used be for
Facebook: unfollowed every person & page, only use it for groups (and events if they were a thing).
Twitter: deleted it last year, but made a new one to message some other chiptune folks
Reddit: mostly for answering n00bs questions about Reaper & the rules of Warhammer…
Facebook: Deleted account, still use Messenger to talk to @xylo
Twitter: have one for my podcast but it is a mix of politics and ambient music
Instagram: deactivated my personal due to watching too many fucking Reels or whatever, andnow only use the podcast one
Reddit: read the Switch subreddits and that’s it
Linkedin: used it to get a new job. fucking useless otherwise.
things not social media you’ve included for some reason
YouTube: not really a social media site. use it as a place to watch histories on Trains and other videos.
WhatsApp: also not a social media site. Use it to contact everyone in my life (bar @xylo)
