Solo: A Star Wars Story

Isn’t these “three films” thing just part of contracts these days to secure contractual costs each time stay the same? I mean, in Civil War Downey Jr was out of his original contract, and it cost them $40 million as he knew they couldn’t do it without him. More fool Marvel.

Yeah potentially - I guess it makes sense to pre-tie people down, I just didn’t think they’d be looking beyond this one Solo stand-alone, so interesting to see if he pops up in any other IP moving forwards.

Guillermo del Toro has pitched them a Jabba film as well

Yeah, that’s quite an old rumour - if it comes to pass, then that would certainly need Solo involved so it could potentially jack into ANH.

apparently yer lass jyn erso signed a three-film contract an all, so dont read too much into it

two-film contract iirc - it led to all sorts of “but how will they bring her back?! Disney suck!” chatter lolz

This is marketing I can get behind

Glover’s delivery is great but the ship looks really quite bad in a lot of this, doesn’t it? Like when you get an HD version of an old movie and you suddenly notice all the sets are definitely made of plastic.

I also can’t really credit how quickly this ship got to looking like shit after Solo got hold of it. It’s all too bright!

I think the ship looks great!

There’s another featurette out with lots of footage in it which shows that he meets Chewbacca for the first time in this film too. Really don’t feel like I need to know how he meets Chewbacca.

  • I didn’t go to see any of the new Star Wars films (episode 7 onwards) in the cinema, and I won’t see this one in the cinema either

when I got my 1st HD TV (which I still have) the 1st thing I did was stuck on the original Star Wars on DVD (non messed about with version natch)

It looked terrible - like an episode of Blake’s 7. Fixed when I turned off motion smoothing and all that shit though

The ship will look good through the magic lens of cinema - its the Movies!

Despecialised editions?

I mean otherwise those 2004 DVDs that had the original version as an extra weren’t even anamorphic so I’d have thought they looked rough as guts on an HD TV!

it’s the 2004 DVDs

I have to muck about with the aspect ratio on the TV when watching them - but they are reasonably fine apart from that

anything is better than the special editions

Yeah the old zoom in.

Actually some DVD players used to scale up non anamorphic DVDs to anamorphic. It’s frustrating though because the subs go off the bottom of the screen unless you have the option to shunt the picture up.

Yes, it’s the laser disc master from the 1995 release, hence it’s in SD letterbox instead of anamorphic widescreen

THEO! THEO! THEO! THEO! THEO!

This sort of info was important when DVDs were £20+ and a significant number were just terrible worthless prints
