God.

Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian

As I said elsewhere:

If this is just a shameless tread through Rescue Chewie -> win the Falcon off Lando -> hang with Greedo -> get a job off Jabba -> dump the cargo, then it’s going to be so boring.

So many stories they could write. Nah, let’s just vaguely tie together a bunch of significant points that came up in single-line throwaway dialogue.

where is the railer already?? I thought it was supposed to be out by now. i usually try to avoid trailers, but I want assess the ‘vibe’ of this one

the whole director change thing troubles me - i read that original guys had Han Solo carrying on like Ace ventura, and now with Ron Howard at the helm, how ‘Ron Howarded’ is this movie?

Ron Howard is a Tabula Rasa of a director, really. I mean he delivers well directed stuff but you can’t get excited about the fact that he’s directing it.

nail on the head right there - i never get a sense that he adds much - just very beige and formulaic

i mean he’s probably really good at pointing cameras at things, and sticking to budgets and such

I mean yeah.

HOWEVER, I would follow that up by saying I don’t feel like I see a lot of directors out there who are achieving even that level with projects so I don’t mind him in the chair.

My worries with this movie are really all about the story. I’m fairly sure Ron Howard will film it really well and the cast sound like they’re all good.

Still…we do need that trailer to make much more of a judgement.

Oh look

Mike Zeroh took to the Star Wars YouTube channel and explained what went wrong. He said: ‘The trailer was supposed to come out on a date which was delayed due to pick-up shots. These will involve two characters – Han Solo and Lando Calrissian, portrayed by Donald Glover. ‘These will be done on a studio and not on location. This is the main reason why the trailer is delayed.’

EDIT: Donald Glover’s playing both roles? Some serious CGI is going to be needed!

As the main Star Wars saga has now moved on, this whole enterprise seems totally redundant.

By apparently just being a by the numbers recap of events that fans already know about, it seems even more of a futile exercise.

Although the way that the fanboys wet themselves in horror over the Last Jedi means that a comforting familiar plod should be sufficiently non threatening to placate them.

So long as it’s not financially redundant, Disney won’t care too much.

You could have at least cc’d him into this. Bit snide

Disney must surely be expecting a bit of audience fatigue for this one.

Think this is a little bit unfair to Howard. He’s made a lot of decent films, and it’s not like they’re all quiet talky-heads dramas or anything.
