Hi people of dis,
I’m going to be doing a bit of a project on songs about death and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for stuff to check out, be they whole albums or single songs?
Any genre or type, it doesn’t really matter. Off the top of my head I have things like:
Touche amore - rapture
Empire Empire! - It was a fate we can’t escape…
Mineral - for ivadell
Against me - dead friend
Son House - death letter
Mount Eerie – Real Death
, Sufjan Stevens – Casimir Pulaski Day,
Ryan Adams –September
You know, that kind of cheery thing….
Thanks punks
Elvis watches the long black limousine roll into town:
Ezra Koenig confronts mortality as he approaches 30:
A lot of that album (Modern Vampires of the City) is preoccupied with death but these two sprang to mind first.
Randy Newman nearly dies:
Nick Cave is not afraid to die:
…and is of course a rich seam beyond that, including his cover versions:
Good luck with your project!

I’m not sure there are any. I don’t think it’s a topic that songwriters have ever attempted to touch on.
