Songs inspired by Sylvia Plath

Sylvia Plath died on this day 60 years ago. I’ve started a playlist inspired by her work, as there are so many great tunes that take influence from her.

What would you add?

Shared a little bit about a pilgrimage I went on to Plath’s grave here

Included the live version as it’s so lush (in case you skimmed looking for the Hospice album cover)

Mentioned this in the TV thread, but the graveyard where Sylvia Plath is buried was used as a location in the final episode of Happy Valley last week. No explicit reference, but it’s not going to be a coincidence… That’s probably more for TV shows inspired by Sylvia Plath than songs inspired by Sylvia Plath, but it’s all I’ve got I’m afraid

Two from me:

Pattern Is Movement (one for the artist not thought about in years thread) have a song called Sylvia and Rachel Zeffira has one called Waiting For Sylvia. Maybe different Sylvias though.

Think this one’s about Ted Hughes trying to call her.

ahh, that’ll be it

Lyrics largely taken from Plath’s poem, The Thin People

Also, Chris Cornell said that the lyrics on the Superunknown album were inspired by Slyvia Plath’s writing.

Moby song named after the pseudonym she used when the Bell Jar was first published.

Thank you for all the suggestions. They’re been added.

Random but I’m going to submit an abstract journal about musical representations of Plath to a journal and I don’t have Spotify anymore, any chance of getting a screenshot of this playlist

It seems there are a few of these.

Amazing! Thank you!
