Only angels have wings, girl
And poets have all the words
The earth belongs to the two of us
And the sky belongs to the birds
You’ve given me so much happiness
That I’ll wrap up and give you this song
You gotta grab it with both hands You gotta keep hanging on…
The cat walks to the window
And I hear the key turn in the door
No one knows and anything goes
And everything falls on the floor
The apartment starts shaking
And the roof opens up to the sun
The crows flying in parallel lines
And golly, isn’t this great fun?
Laying in each other’s arms We’re sleepy, begin to nod
And we start to dream of grandiose things Oh god, oh god, oh god You gotta keep hanging on…

Reminds me of this that was featured on Dotun Adebayo’s global jukebox where listeners phone in and debate songs. One song from the show makes the jukebox. A 90 year old dying woman phoned in and spoke of her love for this, and she put everything so well and succinctly and was so humble about everything that it won hands down even though it may not have been the best song mentioned on that show from a few years back. Really evocative rare radio and the song is undeniably beautiful.

Met him, he came to my school and spoke in assembly and again in a smaller environment in my R.E. class. He’d converted and was Yusuf Islam and it was just funny seeing our Science teacher go weak at the knees star struck in assembly. He was lovely and talked about how he’d been high and lost a sea paddling out but waves were taking him away and he was beginning to drown. He made a deal with God as he felt destined to die and as he did a huge wave carried him to shore and saved his life. He studied religion for a while and converted. I’ve never got on with his music truly but always remember that experience very fondly. Lovely guy.
