Although interestingly you can still buy Walkmans (as mentioned in the original). They tried to be more ‘modern’ and became defunct sooner.

Depends whether by ‘video’ we mean a video cassette (definitely defunct) or the broader sense of a visual recording (definitely not defunct). I reckon they were probably referring to the second sense in the song so it’s not a song about defunct technology at all.
