Songs which reference the lyrics of other songs

Not the title, just the lyrics.

This bit of Evening Of The Day by Supergrass

If she’s not on that three fifteen
Then I’m gonna know what sorrow means

is more or less a direct lift from All The Way Home out of Spinal Tap.

Oh also ‘I can’t sing a love song like the way it’s meant to be’ is a direct reference to a line in Romeo & Juliet by Dire Straits.

Any more? Probably.

It was song number three
On John’s last CD
that said
“I am gonna make it through this year, if it kills me”

Track 3 on The Sunset Tree:

Can’t ask for more so why unfulfilled
We take apart everthing we build
Had it right here but now it’s gone
On and on

Can’t ask for more so I’m unfulfilled
You break apart everything you build
You had it right here and you still do
Through and through

You swung your feet and sang my favorite Weezer song
So I sang along
I’m a lot like you so please
Hello I’m here, I’m waiting
I think I’d be good for you
And you could be good for me

"She says 'I’ve really come to hate my body
And all the things it requires in this world’"

“There’s a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in”
And I am not an old man having an existential crisis
At a Buddhist monastery writing horny poetry
But I agree
