Spoken word segments in songs: sometimes they’re great, sometimes they’re naff, and quite often they’re a bit of both. Post good ones here. Samples and field recordings count too, provided it’s someone speaking.

To kick us off:
Somebody said all the world’s a stage
And each of us is a player
That’s what I’ve been tryin’ to tell you
In Act 1, I was struggling to survive
Nobody wanted my action dead or alive
Act 2, I hit the big time
And bodies be all up on my behind
And I can’t help myself because I was born to shine
And if you don’t like it, you can shove it
But you don’t like it, you love it
So I’ll be up here in a rage
'Til they bring the curtain down on the stage
I tend to listen to albums as a whole so it took me ages to realise they split it into two tracks but I love this
Been pretty obsessed with this after seeing him last week supporting The Dears. It is mainly spoken word so may not count. But it is great
Not a spoken word person whatsoever but I think these work perfectly.

The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right)
Aww he’s such a good egg. Used to chat to him loads when he worked in my local cafe and M had just been born.
The one from Just A Man by Faith No More is brilliantly OTT. Mike Patton does this stuff so well.
Man was born to love
Though often he has sought
Like Icarus
To fly too high
And far too lonely than he ought
To kiss the sun of East and West
To hold the world at his behest
To hold the terrible power to whom only Gods are blessed
But me - I am just a man
Bit naff but also fun…
This is my good eye
Do you hear a cow?
A rooster says
Here is a pig
The devil says
There’s at least another one on KFDFFAL… can’t think of it rn mind
Star A.D.
And dying is dry
Like a fact of history
And when you die, you’ll become something worse than dead
You’ll become
A legend
Yes! This is such a lovely single, the spoken section with her voice breaking is the best bit
