When you bake your next loaf tap it on the bottom when you take it out of the oven and it should sound hollow. But as @colinfilth says it might just be that you cut it too soon.

Yeah I tapped the hell out of it. Will be sure not to cut too soon next time though!

Thanks for all your advice and support guys, sorry for clogging up the chat with my hystericalness. Lots of bready cuddles xx

I hope so  I’ve had fun anyway, you’ve all cheered me up XxX

yeah I think there’s definitely a debate to be had about when to add the salt to the dough, but it doesn’t seem to cause issues chucking it in at the start

a simple tweak that i’ll try is to hold back a little water and stir in the salt, and then mix that in after the 1 hour rest before it goes into a warm place overnight.

I’ve definitely read in more than one place that the cool kids leave the salt out for as long as possible, but not sure how I’d make that work.

yeah i’m just trying to keep everything as simple and tidy as possible. i’m on my last warning for leaving the kitchen covered in flour and the sink gunked up with dough!

I mix the flour, water and starter and let it sit for 30 minutes. Then add the salt.

Had 200g of pizza flour and 200g of plain flour in the cupboard so thought I’d have a go at making bread, just using dried yeast. Came out looking so-so but it tasted very good, and has inspired me to buy a dough scraper (as I nearly had @Witches levels of rage trying to move the wet dough about) and have another go at a starter.

Also - I used a casserole pot which I think I have now… ruined?

Hello again,

I’m thinking of trying to make bread again but after the last melt down I’m a little apprehensive, What recipes are people using? Sorry, I realise this has been mentioned lots in thread, but it’ll take me days to hunt them out :grimacing:

Thank you!!
