Yes!

I had no idea who either EITS or Alexis Taylor were at time. Alexis (if it was him) was really nervy and awkward. Weird venue too- I think we ended up watching Four Tet from a balcony.

Soul Tree was such a weird venue. I remember seeing Venetian Snares there which was one of the most strange gig experiences I’ve ever had. I think Melt Banana played there too but I missed that one

It’s now a Hawaiian themed bar/club. Not been to it in its current incarnation. Doubt they’d still put on a Melt Banana gig.

Same one I was talking about above. South Street were always rubbish about advertising things. I only found out about that gig last minute because a friend was temping on the bar there, and I got what they claimed was the last ticket and other friends didn’t get one in time. They must have allocated a very low capacity, because it was definitely not full.

I remember there were some people who tried to dance to Four Tet, and failed miserably because the tempo kept changing.

Saw Test Icicles supporting Babyshambles at the Barfly, once.

There didn’t end up being many people at the gig anyway, even lesser so for Test Icicles who I don’t think many people had heard of at the time.

[and for the indie points]

I was never really a fan (preferred The Blood Brothers) but they did put one hell of a show on. One of them jumped up and grabbed hold of the ceiling mounted air conditioning unit, and broke part of it off.

@Huggy_Bear that atp custard factory gig gave you free entry to the club next door afterwards with francois k and derrick may djing. I think weatherall played between the bands too.

It was also absolutely fucking freezing in there that night I if recall

Most I remember from that show is Lightning bolt setting up in the corner of the room close to the bogs. Luckily I was in that area when they started. Yeah, we left after Shellac…

saw Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds headline the second stage at Oxegen one year (think the Irish T in the Park), attendance was pitiful. was a pretty grim festival overall at that stage

I saw them on that tour in Bristol - there were so few people they had us all move inside the crash barrier. I think whoever booked the tour clearly assumed that the entire Blood Brothers audience would definitely come out, and they were very wrong.

Went to that, was amazing. Was in the days after discovering Mrs JH was pregno, and then when the kid was out, Among the Leaves was the only thing that would calm her down for months.

That’s my Mark Kozelek at the Thekla story.

Now weirdly plays Colston hall when he comes to town.

Also Malkmus in Bristol at Anson rooms was real quiet, then I mentioned it to a friend who had seen him in Cardiff, a show I knew nothing of and def would’ve gone to, and he was stating single figures.

Malk came back to Bristol and played the Thekla and think made a joke about getting over 100 in there. “Not a big Malkmus town” or similar.

Someone also told me that outside of London, Swervedriver (last summer) didn’t get more than 100 in at any show. May be bull to the shit.

It might not be B to the S. In Nottingham they played the Bodega, an intimate venue that’s usually only ever visited by the up and coming. I didn’t go, so I couldn’t tell you how full it was, but the capacity can’t be far north of 200.

Saw of Montreal on the hissing fauna tour in Nottingham at the Bodega/Social. Maybe 40 people.

could start a much less interesting ‘Massively attended gigs’ thread

do it

‘The Paul McCartney gig at Wembly was really busy!’

I was at that melt banana gig! Very sticky floor. Bearsuit in support I think.

Was rammed, mind.

Was at electric picnic last month and was surprised how small Catfish and the Bottlemen’s crowd were, guess the Irish are more immune to them.
