Too close to the first season ending maybe? I’m hoping they are going to go with “It was all a dream”…
How about the main guy thinking ‘ah fuck it’ and becoming the new head honcho of the island and its merry games? Moral of the story being that capitalism turns everyone into what they initially hated in the beginning regardless of how much you fight against it. Final scene is him entering as the new 001 player, turning to the others and giving it an Italian Job style “Hang on a minute lads, I’ve got a great idea”
This is what i was thinking too.
We watched series 2 over the past week or two. I was curious why I hadn’t really heard anyone talking about it, but now I know why… sort of pointless overall. I’m surprised no one has mentioned Thanos in this thread, every time he was on screen I wanted to claw my eyes out. I know he was a ‘baddie’ and you weren’t supposed to like him but I can’t remember the last time I was so irritated by a character.
There were so many subthreads running through it, the search team and shock horror! the double agent ship’s captain, the organ harvesting, 011 and why she was working against the harvesters, none of them resolved in any meaningful way. It all just felt like padding and with the series only being seven episodes anyway, it added to the feeling of a rushed cashing in on the first series.
All very negative so far, but I did enjoy it while I watched, I just don’t think any of it was memorable at all.
Easily the best thing about series 2
So, years later… I finally began watching. The main guy is hugely annoying although that’s part of the point, I suppose? I’m more intrigued about the staff - what’s their deal?! Episode 2 was really good if bleak as fuck. (Someone please save the two mums!!!)
This really fizzled out, eh?
Fwiw I thought they had the makings of a great second season, if Netflix hadn’t stuck their oar in and made them split it into two parts. Cut out the superfluous bollocks in Seoul, on the boat and with the organ harvesters, maybe lose the entire uprising too, and keep the focus on the damn Squid Games, and it would have been up there with Season 1.
Also, I love how for Season 1 everyone was like “oh, give them a break, it was filmed during Covid and hardly any foreign actors were available”, and then the foreign actors this season are arguably worse
In the end the real game was the squid we played along the way.
squidpan
Really hate the fact that it’s seemingly impossible to do a decent “one and done” series these days. Same with Russian Doll as well - just give me a nice, self contained little mystery and move on. Don’t go and ruin it with a pointless season 2.
La Casa de Papel (aka MONEY HEIST) was another one
Good that the Queen’s Gambit had the decency to do this (or more likely couldn’t afford Anya Taylor-Joy anymore)
Yeah this is a perfect example of getting in, telling a story and getting out. Need more things like this!
Season 3 was about a hundred times better than season 2 aye em oh. Weird how that happened
Just finished it. Wow, season 3 turned out to be low hype didn’t it?
Also…
…completely different to this. Completely.
Watched the first episode of series three last night. Shocked that they’re playing more games after the end of series two. It seems like the show had moved past all that. Is it actually good then? Was going to consider bailing until I came into the thread
Just finished series 3. Such a disappointment, they should have just stopped at one series. That CGI dog abomination is going to haunt my nightmares.
I quite enjoyed it. The second and third parts were both totally unnecessary and riddled with flaws for sure, but entertaining nonetheless!
Would be up for a spin off series where it’s just your two lads getting into scrapes whilst doing up that love hotel place.
