Stand up comedian thread

Lucy Pearman did one of my absolute favourite comedy shows maybe 5 or 6 years ago, all daft costumes and pissing around, about an early bird catching the worm. Just so joyously funny all the way through.

And Chris Cantrill’s great.

For anyone in the North East, there’s a one-day comedy fest in Durham on Monday 26th May, the second bank holiday. Already shaping up nicely.

I’m going to see Stevie Martin and Lorna Rose Treen, will probably fit some more in as well.

Bit harsh of so many acts to decide they’re no showing the festival this early.

Thought this was decent, I didn’t absolutely love it though, didn’t quite live up to some of the high praise I’ve seen but I was quite tired and it started so early that I didn’t had time to have a proper dinner after work which may have affected things for me. Not bad though.

Her bf Will Rowland supported and I thought he was quite funny, thought some of his jokes deserved a few more laughs.

Also passed them both in the street outside my office today at lunch time.

Saw Paddy Young again last night, proper funny guy

Went to see Richard Herring last night. I’ve seen him a few times but haven’t seen his standup in a few years (aside from podcast recordings), his shows are usually themed in some way but this this one is all about his testicular cancer experience which is obviously a stronger theme than most.

I was worried the audience reaction seemed a bit muted at first but it warmed up as it went on. Sometimes find his standup a little hit and miss but thought this was decent and actually quite informative as well.

In the context of having a testicle removed it was nice to hear him say some positive stuff about gender identity being what’s in your head rather than between your legs, and then he also made a joke about Graham Linehan shortly after. Reassuring.

I was slightly annoyed by a guy in the back row behind me who started loudly eating a bag of crisps during the first half. Was only about 15 minutes until the interval as well. Insane behaviour.

I think that was my fourth time seeing him and the vibe was definitely strange. There wasn’t the raucous atmosphere that you’d normally expect from a comedy crowd, but I guess the fact it was so obviously about cancer maybe dampened people’s spirits.

Absolutely loved the bit about gender and the number of balls you own having nothing to do with whether you were a man or not. Following it up with all the horrible people who only have one ball was great too. Will have my eye on Dara O’Brien from now on.

The ventriloquism was another highlight, especially when he got mixed up about who’s voice he should be doing when. Reassuring that his irish accent is almost as good as his Scotch one, and nice to hear a reference to weak lemon drink!

Yeah I wasn’t sure if I was just hearing less laughter cos I was up near the back with fewer people around me, did feel like it picked up after a while though

Was slightly dreading it when he got the puppet out but was relieved that he’s terrible enough at ventriloquism for it to be funny. I remember him starting to do puppet shows on Twitch during lockdown and thought it was a sign that he’d fully lost his mind

Also enjoyed his acknowledgment that no one liked him on Taskmaster and it hasn’t encouraged anyone new to come and see him

Been going to some random comedy club nights recently and it’s just been so much fun. With all this gestures around it’s actually amazing to just be able to belly laugh and forget about everything for a bit.

Went to see Harry Hill do 100 mins of his greatest hits last night and, as you might expect, it was absolutely glorious from start to finish.

Thanks for posting this, had no idea he was touring. I looked at my local venue website as soon as I saw it, all sold out.

Just looked and some have come back up on sale and got third row! Bank holiday Sunday with Harry Hill, great stuff.

Was tempted to see him here and forgot about it but just checked and I’m at a festival that day already

Looks like it’s all sold out apart from literally two seats up in the gods anyway

I was trying to get tickets at Christmas, only two tickets left then too. Raging I missed it.

Well up for this

This was the last one from 2023. No idea why the uploader thinks it’s a Taskmaster tie-in.
