Was on a family holiday in the US when it came out. Really enjoyed the temporary cool bestowed on me when I got back to school and I was the only person who had seen it.
It would be crazy to assume he isn’t going to be a force ghost, surely? Or I guess the effects to make him look all shimmery will be going on in post, if that’s what you mean?
Rare example of headline question to which the answer is actually…YES.
I like The Phantom Menace
I get what you mean - I too basked in that glow upon arriving home. The folly of youth!
Yoda didn’t really look like ‘a Force ghost’ in TLJ - I base that off the previous ghosts looking more opaque and shimmer-y mind, which perhaps the sequels aren’t bothered about replicating?
I really like all eight main Star Wars films, and I will probably like the ninth.
really like the lightsavre duels, particularly qui jin and kenobi vs darth maul. very good. i like the one in the force awakens too, near the end. don’t get how she is a sabresmith so quickly tho, those things are lethal.
I do enjoy watching it from time to time, which I’ve never done with the other prequels which I just remember being really boring, and for everything that it is, it isn’t that. It’s still absolutely brilliant that after 16 years of fevered anticipation this sentence is the first thing anyone sees on screen
I was seven when it came out and it was the first Star Wars I saw, didn’t even care about this stuff, just really liked the podracing and the lightsabers and the pew pew
Also this is one of the best bits of film music ever isn’t it
that’s the problem with sequels tho isn’t it, like why do we need to know how darth vader became a bad guy? more interesting to fill in the blanks yourself isn’t it. like with the GoT prequel - i just don’t need to know how they won the first long night or built the wall, unless it somehow enhances and enriches the original story. idk, some prequels can be good but i don’t know if i’d say any are necessary per se
Seems weird now that the novelisation of The Phantom Menace was available before the film.
She’s adept with hand-held weapons as demonstrated in TFA by the staff she wields - I guess just make sure you don’t point a lightsaber towards you before igniting!
ohhh yeah, i forgot. i would assume if she has the force she’s also instinctively good with a weapon anyway too
All the ‘it’s crap because it centres on boring politics’ complaints never sat well with me. It’s actually fine and, with the advent of expanding the SW universe to the point it is now, very befitting of the entire saga.
As much as Lucas has said the prequels are about Anakin becoming Darth Vader, I find them to be better films if you focus on Palpatine’s arc to becoming Emperor.
still the best star wars - great fights, cool racing/space fighting, funny characters, the lot.
Is 2019 the year the world finally reconsiders The Phantom Menace?
I hope not because it’s still a big ol’ pile of balls.
A funny thing to say in 2019 would be “Turns out that X was the real Phantom Menace all along…”
(X can stand for anything you want)
doctor zhivago is what he modelled the prequel trilogy on apparently, i never knew that
and the rebels in the original films are the viet cong!
