Heh heh

Sky Cinema already showing Rise of Skywalker from 4th May, so about 4-6 months earlier than it would be usually. Can’t tell if this is just them getting it out there and not bothering with DVD/digital release because they’re washing their hands of it, or some pandemic-related eagerness for immediate viewing content

nice

That reminds me, I saw this yesterday. No idea if it’s true, but I found it mildly interesting

DVD / Bluray / UHD discs were released a week or so ago.

Really feeling very little desire to get TROS on blu ray, despite having all the other new ones.

I quite enjoyed it in the cinema but I think a rewatch might cause me to let the hate run through me

Yeah - my Blu-ray was scheduled to arrive on the 25th, but it turned up on the 21st. Lockdown bonus!

this is exactly how I feel

was probably better watching it from home - you don’t get that facepalm moment when it’s revealed that the emperor has returned. and its easier to see that the main ‘fucked it’ moment of the trilogy was killing luke skywalker for no reason in the second film.

The main ‘fucked it’ moment was them starting it without a complete plan of how they were going to do all three films

true, true. but I feel it would have just been a ‘bad’ trilogy as opposed to a steaming pile of incoherent nonsense with a few minor tweaks.

I mean, the main fucked it moment was just making a bad film, surely? Having no plan for how it would turn out doesn’t force anybody to make a shit film. The original trilogy had no plan and was good, the prequels had a plan and were bad.

I watched it again this week, and the fucked it moment was definitely whenever whoever is to blame decided to put Palpatine in it. The middle third or so turns out, with managed expectations, to be an acceptably average Star War, but the first twenty minutes or so are diabolically pisspoor, and the climax is worse. It’s such a bodge that was obviously jammed in late in the day - one location, minimal interaction with other characters, no sense or logic behind it. It’s quite possibly the single worst decision of the entire saga, and I’ve seen Hayden Christiansen act.

I watched TROS on a Disney cruise ship, at 11pm, with a load of strong beers, and as soon as the opening crawl came up with that opening line I literally burst out laughing. Just destroyed any expectations I might’ve had for what came next making any sense or meaning anything, which was fine, I was happy to watch if for some silly gags and pew-pew laser action, but it’s one of the least defensible plot decisions in film history.

revealing the ultimate villain of a nine film saga off screen in a text crawl was such a stroke of genius

Ohhh just read up a bit. maybe me having no memories of return of the Jedi or who palpating is means i liked the film better than most.

can see that going the same way as the lego folk that got booted off han: solo.

“hey, we’ll hire someone good to direct our film! oh wait you’re doing it like one of your films? sorry no.”

(haven’t read the article)
