Ha ha.

I mean I don’t mind an evil force ghost. Actually being alive seems way dodgy though.

Awesome decision to cast Vincent Price in this. Bold move.

Hahhahaha oops! Yeah that did throw me off a bit. I just hope it doesn’t mean Rey is a Skywalker or something dumb like that. Minor complaint but was disappointed to see her using Luke/Anakin’s lightsaber in the trailer, didn’t that break in TLJ? Hope she makes her own one, anyway

Assume she repaired it.

As l say, kylo is a skywalker

They’re going to explain Snoke and make Rey’s parentage important aren’t they?

Twats.

Not gonna rush to see this tbh.

Thinking about how it is going to wrap up the saga really does bring into focus TLJ’s shortcomings. The crux(es) of it being the much lauded brave and fresh decision to make Ray a nobody and Snoke unimportant, sure might have provided (some people) some cheap short term enjoyment based on surprise and novelty, but at the expense of the substance of the greater story.

Thematically I think a nobody being the protagonist that wins the day is actually preferable to hereditary destiny and all that, in a new hope that is the story, but in empire they changed that, I don’t think that was a conscious decision to change the worldview, meaning and nature of the jedi but rather they needed to deepen the connection between hero and villain (and unfortunately the internal logic led george to the midichlorians), so it is what it is. Even before the blood link at least there was a personal connection between Luke and Vader, Luke believing Vader killed his father.

Rey being totally unconnected to anyone, while potentially interesting to some people in terms of her own story, searching for belonging and finding herself, isn’t really that satisfying interns of finishing off a nine films saga. Similarly Snoke being unimportant was frivolous, a short term shock moment that some may have found enjoyable, but at the expense of the wider story.

I can see why they have to clutch at straws and bring the emperor back, there was nothing left of interest after TLJ hollowed it out with his bold decisions. Think it will be terrible personally, as it diminishes Anakins original ending as TLJ diminished Luke’s, and just further proves these were a completely unnecessary extension of a story that had a satisfactory end

Cheers Johnson and JJ

Also is that the wrath of Khan font again

That font annoys me as a designer, as it’s often used on shit beer and organic snacks.

It is, in my opinion.

Also, from a pure business point of view. Having the force democratised is the best way to expand the universe beyond the original saga.

It never made sense anyway given jedi were supposed to not have families. I think the important thing is connection and/or history between the characters that is needed rather than connected hereditary power, like Luke’s story was good not because he was fulfilling some mystical and biological destiny, it was because he was an essentially good person who managed to save his dad, we never even know if he is a particular good jedi he might be considered pretty mediocre compared to other jedi, it wasn’t his power that won the day it was he belief in goodness.

I do think there needs to be something like that for Rey, a connection to the wider story, sure she has her connection with the people of the resistance but she barely knows any of them but Finn, and I do think there needs to be some reason for her power, I am totally up for the force being open to anyone, think it should be a thing about spiritual enlightenment rather than birthright, but I think they do need to give some kind of reason as otherwise it just seems completely random which I don’t think is a very satisfying story. if she was the child of some no mark jedi trainees with some provisional training, spared by Kylo during his massacre, I think that would tie in well (that wouldn’t necessarily need to support the force is genetic argument, it would be the provisional training that mattered), kind of hope they do go with this and Kylo lied because it is better than ‘I killed your parents’, or I even think if she just developed her powers because she had the natural ability and needed to to survive that would be ok (as think there are hints of that in TFA) but if so they should flesh that out a bit more as the star wars universe is pretty inhospitable and jedi would be popping up all over the shop if that were the case. Just personally think her story needs something to explain why her as I find randomness unsatisfying, and something to tie her story into the wider one

It’s a low bar but like all of these new Star Wars films I only need it to entertain me for a couple of hours in the cinema, not stand up to a dozen repeat viewings, or match up to some pet theory.

It’s odd…I do consider myself a Star Wars fan - at least to the extent that I have a Chewbacca T-shirt, subscribe to a couple of podcasts about it, and tuned in to an hour-long livestream from Celebration. But IX is just a cinema trip to look forward to.
