I always thought the similarity between the names Rey & (Kylo) Ren was to clumsy to be coincidence. They’re probably batch numbers of genetic code or some shit

Rey is Vader spliced with Sith but she got all the good side of the Jedi through the Skywalker genes

Or some other bullshit

In the old Dark Horse comics Palpy had loads of Clones created of him so he could live on. Think it will end up as a cross between that and Starkiller Clones in Force Unleashed.
Also wouldn’t be shocked if the knights of ren are all Clones that were successful to lesser extents.

Yeah on the one hand clones seem stupid, but then the clone wars are referenced in the original, clones play a major role in the prequels and obviously the clone wars, plus lots of EU stuff, so it shouldn’t feel like a weird thing (but it does). Remember back to Snoke speculation people pointed out he had the same theme as the plagius theme in revenge of the Sith, guess that could all tie it together if it is the bad guys quest for immortality Harry Potter style. Gonna be bad I reckon. Really liked the Dark Empire comics, even though luke goes bad

Might be a Timothy Zahn Heir to the Empire style set ofluke Clones using his hand that was clinging on to that lightsaber.
Pretty sure Clones are mentioned in passing in either 7 or 8 too.
I’d be amazed if it’s not Clones at this point to be honest.
Reckon it’ll be grand. Hope Luke shows up as a force ghost, that Leia gets a good send off and Billy Dee Williams says “how ya doing chewbacca!?”
throw in a few lightsaber fights, a big space fight and I’m in!

you say that but i can’t for the life of me remember what the ending of the phantom menace is, whereas the force awakens i can remember coz i’ve seen a new hope a thousand times

Yeah, but Cam Kennedy could make venereal diseases look good.

The huff post link you posted (even though it’s out of date) explains all this quite well

Even that the Skywalkers are maybe a line of genetic engineering as Shmi Skywalker’s pregnancy with Anakin happened without explanation while she was a slave

Star Wars is such a biblical epic sometimes - bloodlines & holy ghosts & seers & all that shit

So what about Finn then?

It’s more like an imagined world where Eugenics was an actual science instead of just a fantasy of the rich and powerful.

That’s basically the same thing

Whom begat whomst and why that gives them the power of the almighty

The ‘biblical epic’ was by no means a positive description

They’re really running with this ‘the whole saga coming to an end’ thing then. I mean i don’t blame them showing Original Trilogy footage, especially after some of the reaction to the last film, which here gets pretty short shrift footage-wise. It’s pretty smart, very much a JJ move.

Surely there’s a whole bunch of films with Rey and Poe and whoever else just around the corner a few years later though so i’m not sure how this is the official ‘end’ of.anything really. Other than the whole ‘trilogy of trilogies’ idea…

I wonder what JJ’s real feelings about the last film are. I mean i know the official line but…

I will forever remain baffled by the idea that The Last Jedi is significantly better/significantly worse than the other Star Wars films. It’s just sent everyone nuts.

It’s interesting that the IMDB has neither of the last 2 sequels in their Top 250. Although this is mainly because of the hardcore malcontents besieging the site to skew the numbers, they don’t seem to have found Letterboxd yet because it gets great rankings and reviews over there.

But yeah it’s all a bit daft.

It is significantly different though, as evidenced by people who both love it for that and those that hate it. Tonally it is quite different, bringing in a very Marvel/whedon esque humour. Then it quite consciously sets about subverting expectations, simple mythic stuff of plucky underdogs overcoming insurmountable odds but winning due to having right on their side, being replaced with the bleak realism of people being confronted with just how stupid and irresponsible their ‘heroism’ is. Plus it’s loads longer. Plus it completely lacks the characteristic serial momentum. Just generally feels a lot different to the others and kind of jarring because of that

No pod racing though

And some really very cool bits

The space horse race was a lot worse than the pod race, think I like the pod race

One of the reason I reeeeeaaaally hope but don’t expect them to stick by their guns and make Rei a nobody.

It’s going to fucking suck when it turns out she’s a clone created from Palpatine’s ubermensch DNA.

It sent a small amount of very vocal people nuts

Most people just watched and enjoyed another star wars film.

Most people enjoy most big films though, most big budget films get A ratings from test audiences, amongst the fandom it was very polarising
