I totally agree, didn’t mean to suggest you shouldn’t say your piece - gotta hear from everyone or what’s the point.

Just mean that there’s more to discuss with people who see positives and negatives, since you can approach the discussion from either angle. If someone is wholly negative on it then there’s just less for other people to chip in and say, since your reaction is sort of known ahead of time. Again, none of it’s a problem, just my opinion on why you’re not getting as much discussion as you might want.

And less than 100 of them by Theo. Who’d have thought.

Been thinking what I would like from episode 9 at this point, decided I would like it to be set a couple of hundred years in the future, desolate Logan style tone, chewbacca, a battered R2 and threepio on a road trip through a barren universe, no reference to the events of the other films, dialogue used sparingly, plot revolves around chewbacca’s journey to his home world to die. twin peaks the return finale type vibe

I do like how no one pretends to like or even tolerate C3PO in the new films.

Worth pointing out that most of the people who’ve said they were disappointed by it (on here and irl) have given a ton of different reasons. They were only making one film; with so much expectation they were never going to be able to please everyone. Theres a lot thats not perfect about how it ended up, but feeling let down because a character’s story arc or behaviour didn’t go how you wanted or expected doesn’t mean that the film is bad.

(@ttf I know youve been the most vocal here so should point out that wasn’t aimed at you, just a general point)

Honestly the major thing is I found it largely boring and contrived. Its true I came in hoping it would be good because I liked the reboot and the reviews were good and just found it really dull. Not the worst movie just rather average.

Thats fair. There was a point about a third of the way though where i started to worry they were going to spend the whole thing on that ship like a 2 hour long episode of star trek, but i ended up enjoying it. I’m more meaning like when a couple of people irl have gone ā€œoh, it was shit, luke should have done x/ finn shouldn’t have done yā€ - irks me a bit, cause thats not a measure of how good a film is, its just a measure of how close it is to the film they already had written in their head.

So was going to find Stefan Molyneux normally good for the most ridiculous takes and wow he has surprised me! I was expecting his reading to be much more aggressive against the film. Instead he sees the film as a story about how talented white males (like Luke) are being made isolated and depressed. This is an incredibly pretentiousness reading and not hyperbolic enough to be fun.

Th low down: Luke is a metaphor for the archetypal white male. Excelled from a society that doesnt appropriate him only to be begged to come back. Kylo represents the anger millinals have against the baby bloomers for letting the immigrants in. Some really pretensionus stuff ā€˜Notice that luke does not die, just disappears’. Real talking out of his arse stuff.

If you choose watch out. He has a social Darwinist approach to race issues and is generally horribly sexist and a right prick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l9go9X1EbE. Honestly I would not recommend you watch and if you do please have an add blocker on I dont want you to make him money.

Yeah I dont really see any major plot holes as of such. A few nitpicky things maybe but nothing that you can not suspend your disbelief for. Some brave choices for Lukes arc but, on paper at least, they are interesting choices. I do agree that maybe Finn and Ray could have had more time together as the chemistry is good.
