Steddy Daz got a 114 in Pontypridd once, not on film, but we can take his word for it.

Don’t think I’ve ever been able to skip a stone, don’t have the knack for throwing things at all.

Went to a place called combe martin on our summer holidays. There’s a protected little harbour and when the tide goes out it’s perfect for skimming stones. Managed a 30 odd skipper. Good stones in North devon too. Perfect for skipping

This reminds me of a mortifying moment as a younger man where a friend’s Dad was trying to teach me how to skim stones and I missed the lake with my throw

Always called it skimming, never heard it called skipping. Best have a poll.

  • Skimming stones
  • Skipping stones

Just N.America vs. UK terminology. My kids excitedly told their friends about learning how to skip stones in Canada this summer, and a grumpy mum let her kid know that it was skimming, not skipping.

They’re different

This is the skimming stones world record

Well I never

“The objective of “skipping” is to see how many times a stone can bounce before it sinks into the water; the objective of “skimming” is to see how far a bouncing stone can travel across the water before it sinks into the water.”

When I throw a stone in the water it’s going in the water and staying in there. None of this pissing about on the top nonsense.

Dave Ohmer has been skimming stones competitively for 12 years

With the right stones an hour or so by the lake think I can crack this. Just a throw. How hard can it be?
