Fair, re Robin - my point is that it’s inconsistent. Her conversation with Steve where she says how jealous she was, where it heavily comes across as though she fancied him, is just so at odds with her being a lesbian. IMO that scene needed to be re-shot to account for the change.
I get what you’re saying about Max but she’s very different to S2 and not in an organic developed way, for me anyway.
The first half of this season, where the boys are in one group and the girls in another, really rubbed me up the wrong way. I hoped when Max was introduced and later when Eleven became a part of their gang, it would show that boys/girls can just be friends. Except the show doesn’t want to do that. All of the non-romantic relationships between the boy/girl characters are non existent e.g Mike not talking to Max, Will not talking to Eleven. The latter of which is egregious considering their shared experiences of the upside down.
I don’t think the writers know how to write friendships involving women, without resorting to them fancying each other. To me that’s cliched and tired. A lot of the writing this season feels lazy to me, like how Max and Eleven bond over boys instead of shared experiences, and Erica/Max/Robin are all very similar in their sassy wisecrackery.
The writing this season feels like so much of a step down to me (eg hopper throwing out tons of abusive red flags but getting no retribution, or the VERY cringey scene in the car where the conspiracy theorist, a character I despise, tells Hopper and Joyce to have sex) and I’m obviously quite let down by it.
Sorry for monologging/ranting. If other people are happy with S3 that’s great, I know it’s annoying when someone posts about how they don’t like something, in a thread where people are enjoying that thing. This show just isn’t clicking with me anymore and I loved S1, so I feel a bit crap.
