Would be interested in your thoughts but yeah, did zero for me. Least sympathetic protagonist I’ve ever read, and I’m disposed to enjoy tales of the woes of those who aren’t actually suffering all that greatly (see: The OC).

I really struggled with the first one too, but persevered with the second book and enjoyed them more as I went through, the fourth one was really good. He doesn’t get much more sympathetic though

Oh man. I love that series. The first one also nearly put me off, but I’d bought the whole set so stuck with it. The later books are so good.

I gave up Catholicism the day my Mum gave me the option. Think I was 12. Would have done it way earlier given the choice.

Oh fuck, The Blade Itself trilogy by Joe Abercrombie (“Lord Grimdark” - FUCKING HELL). Picked it up after Falco, of all people, said it was good.

It’s A Song of Ice and Fire for thickos. Read the lot anyway.

Do you mean the Shardlake book Heartstone? If so I’m not sure how you got through 4 other books before you found that too much :smiley:
