Submit Your Best of Mogwai Playlist

It’s an amazing track that of it was 5 minutes shorter would be there

Agreed. Friend Of The Night will be on my list when I get round to it.

It’s a great song but like Young Team it’s a wee bit overhyped.

That said I once saw them play it in Stereo, Glasgow

Part of me wants us all to collectively accept it as being on our lists in spirit and exclude it, as a bunch of us did with Cassandra Gemini when we were doing one hour Mars Volta playlists. But as good as it is, it’s not quite THE definitive song like Cassandra Gemini is, so it’s probably cheating.

i made this one for a previous thread with a one hour restriction (the Make a Best Of for Your Favourite Bands thread i think). 12 tracks. might consider trying a longer one later.

It is Aidan Moffat on it right?

yeah, the music really reminds me of Philophobia as well though (but predates it i think). great song.

One of the toughest things about this is evaluating similar songs. My original list had the five mentioned lower in this post, but I’m thinking of only saving one (PROBABLY Ratts of the Capital, but who knows) so I can fit in a bit more variety.

Just out of curiosity since I’m relatively new to them compared to everyone here, which of these are your favorites? Vote for two. I think I’ve accidentally combined them all in my head into one especially great song.

  • You Don’t Know Jesus
  • Ratts of the Capital
  • Glasgow Mega-snake
  • Batcat
  • I Love You, I’m Going to Blow Up Your School

haha i always have to check which one is which between Ratts and You don’t know Jesus. Even now.

I don’t know if it’s because they’re particularly similar or because they’re both ‘the noisey one’ on relatively calm albums

Was at that gig too - was absolutely delighted to get that and Stanley Kubrick in the first few songs!

And mine, somewhat unsurprisingly! I have a 3 hour Mogwai favourites playlist I’ll need to try and boil down to 2…

I was there too. Had a chat with Barry at the afterparty in Underworld, he was lovely and was a bit starstruck that Robert Smith was milling about

I’d seen them in Dublin the week before but the two setlists were almost completely different. Great shows.
