Yeah, none of this is breaking new ground but also he’s also never exactly been on the cutting edge anyway (a lot of Adz sounded really dated/cheesy to me even when it came out). He could just stay in these sorts of soundscapes forever and people would still dig it.

Let’s all remember this is a b-side, to a 12 minute closing track! I’m not sure that’s where we might expect artists to put out their most groundbreaking/classic material (although it is sufjan…)

I think/hope this is maybe why it got cut from the album. Otherwise, it’s too good to be a b-side.

Also suspect that this is the case. It’s really great - personally love the Vesuvius callback (one of my fav Sufjans) and I imagine once the album comes out this song will function as an interesting study of how he’s bridged the Adz work to the new era, and we’ll see a bit clearer the marriage of both. I hope anyway!

Loving this, I’m a sucker for an artist sampling themselves/calling back to previous tracks.

And Adz is an actual masterpiece, so anything similar or adjacent gets my vote.
