It’s an excellent career and the biotechy side of things is very, very actively recruiting. If you do client-based work then you’ll be exposed to lots of early stage/cutting edge science in your field. I thought the legal stuff would be really boring but (after you learn it all) it’s really about analytical thought, problem solving and putting together a convincing argument.
In house work is a cushy life, in terms of work/life balance. Private practice… less so.
Liveable wage? Trainee starting salary is £28k ish but rises very rapidly to £60k after four years.
Biggest downside is the four years on the job training you’d need to do, and the bastard hard exams. But it’s short term pain for long term gain.
Lots of people come to it as a second or third career too.
