Just realised every team is sponsored by a different snack. Amazing. Not sure whether to give my allegiance to the Northern Superchargers or Welsh Fire.

We have a new winner today, 11 (eleven) debuts in Sussex Lancs. Making sure my phone is charged, reckon any male under 50 has got a shot a county callup this week.

Is that 10 for Sussex?

Looks a fairly strong lancs team

Jeez, it’s 9 for Sussex! Travis Head must have looked around the dressing room this morning and been WTF?

Who are the 2 for lancs? Morley and? Hurt?

Yeah. They should absolutely cream them.

Just turned it on. Awful mix up for the run out.

What a great ground though, great day to be sat on a grass bank with a pint to some cricket.

Would have been nice if they’d chucked the blast on free to air, and maybe put a shot clock on to ensure it wrapped up in 3 and a half hours.

Think that’s all it needed really

I dont know, i think there’s something to said for simplfying scoring and trying to get rid of as much jargon as possible, if you want to get new fans engaged quickly.

I think the problem with cricket is it takes and understanding of the game to be able to see quickly whos on top when checking in the score, as opposed to most other games where its simply the team with the most points. Not sure how you get round this

The other thing I would say is you want a game kids can play at school in PE easily and give most people a chance at batting and bowling. I think we maybe played cricket twice in PE with the people who already played hogging the batting and bowling, so you could have people there who are good and enjoy it but never get the chance

That said i think there a probanly enough t20 games to have a split contract with sky. Have a game on BBC on say a Sunday, followed by a highlights programme for the rest of the weeks games. Give sky the rest. Give bbc 1 qf and jointly broadcast finals days.

Think id probably sack off poweplays too and have standard fielding rules.

Cricket is a complicated game filled with nuance that doesn’t begin and end at scoring or how many balls there are in an over.

The way to engage people is to get eyes on it, get people excited about the sixes etc. And explain the nuance too them/let them get the hang of it as it goes on.

Really think the free to air thing is the only thing that matters here. Test cricket felt massive in 2005, I was 13 and everyone my age got well into it because it was visible and entertaining. Doesn’t need the gimmicks, doesn’t need to risk disenfranchising County fans by inventing new teams.

The hundred is kier starmer’s Labour Party.

No way they’ll let it fail so quickly with the money they’ve wasted on it. Do fear for the impact this will have on the county game and in turn test cricket.

I’m sure there’ll be a pivot or two along the way, as they attempt to generate sales. Only so long they can keep giving tickets away for free.

This. The Hundred is T20, it’s the same thing and presumably just a rights dodge. You either like cricket or you don’t, you can’t convince someone to like it based on pretty colours, cities, DJs, fives instead of overs, all that stuff. The problem has been that lots of people have had no way of finding out if they like it, and maybe they will now. The answer to the question ā€œDo you like cricketā€ is either yes, no or dunno, there have been way too many dunnos.

Having said that, we’ve had something like 250 posts in the last few days primarily from Manchester residents/supporters, so maybe there is something in the city stuff.

This is also an interesting point. My son quite often asks ā€œwho’s winningā€ when I’m watching the cricket and there’s not often a simple answer (although this is part of the appeal to us converted). They do have a win % chance they put up on occasion I suppose. Maybe the D/L par score being rebranded as the ā€œWinning Lineā€ or something, and being more focal? Dunno. Useless in tests of course, but that’s almost a different sport at this stage.

Ooooh! I didn’t realise they’d have so much of it on Sky Sports Mix.

Sussex should play their second XI more often
