I think that was the point of the question being asked on TMS - is the game there to make money (yes), or is making money a means to enable the playing of the game (not so much).

Malan then

At least we’ll get to 40/3 a bit quicker I suppose

I mean, yeah, okay, might as well. Another one with at exactly one first class innings this year but at least it was a really good one.

Andrew miller on Cricinfo is somehow pining for the Joe denly era.

“you wonder if England were too hasty in binning off a man with an average of 29.53, 24 double-figure scores in 28 visits, and perhaps most significantly in these circumstances, a strike-rate of 39.64 that speaks of an ability to keep that very strike rotating”

This is where we are at. An average of 29 at a strike rate of 40 represents the golden era of England number 3s in the last few years. Sheesh.

I like Denly, and it sounds like he was totally misused as a batsman for England there to eat up balls, but did he miss large swathes of Denly struggling to rotate the strike against spin?

I was trying to remember why Malan was dropped in the first place but then I see he was averaging 27 in Tests. I recalled him being (relatively) successful, like averaging 35 or something

I know someone who averages a fraction under 72 against India…

Is this the real quiz? Eoin Morgan?

I see no reason not to pick him again at this point, tbh. His recent form would have him as a nailed on member of the top 3

apparently he managed merely 32.33 against them

quacking a lot, eh?

Oh, it’s Sir Alastair isn’t it. Leave him be and let him enjoy the twilight of his career at Essex

Nope. No point in bringing him back, imo

Surely not Keaton?

Absolutely not.
