Have spent the week building up to doing Szechuan for the first time ever tonight. Bought all new ingredients specially, and under-ate throughout the day in anticipation.

Had a a amazing time cooking, then dished up what can only reasonably be described as the worst bowl of hell a human has ever presented. It tasted like if you filled your mouth with flowers, salt and a bar of Imperial Leather all at the same time. Just utterly vile.

Something has clearly gone wrong but have been back through the recipe in detail and am pretty sure it wasn’t me.

Absolutely fuming here, and the taste simply won’t leave my mouth.

What was the recipe?

I’ve thrown it in the bin as the hipster chef’s face was making me too angry (think it was from the latest Waitrose mag) . However, was vegan, and key ingredients were Szechuan pepper (toasted and ground), black bean and garlic paste and various spicy pastes along with spring onions, tofu, tofu mince and rice. However the only flavour was the Szechuan pepper which needed to be dialled down by 99.99% and I can still taste strongly despite having eaten a thousand other things to try and get it gone.

I almost cried That bad.

Should of been a sticky, sweet and spicy treat, but turned out to be like spraying a can of Lynx Africa in your mouth for an hour.

As a further example, when making a curry, imagine adding 1500 cardamom pods.

Yesterday I cycled 67km on two wham bars and a lucozade :joy:

Oh was a silly joke about the first few posts of this thread

I always love your pie decorations!

I need to make pie soon. Haven’t made savoury pie in forever, does any one have any good savoury vegetarian pie recipes?
