Morning, I hope that if I post this early on, nobody minds me posting my food from last night (which is was served at 6.30pm - that is, early Sunday morning in approx 25% of the world).

Chicken shawarma pie, gunpowder potatoes and tahdig rice

Last bit of rhubarb and custard blondie for breakfast

A lot nicer than it looks. The recipe suggested adding a couple of drops of red food colouring to the rhubarb and I think I can see why…

I hope it’s ok for me to post our lunch from Saturday in the Sunday thread, we ate this at roughly 2pm CEST, so it was well into Sunday in Vanuatu. We went to the Palestinian restaurant.

I think it’s well documented within my thoughts that I do not like the taste of cucumber, but I was willing to take a gamble on the Gaza Salad, despite cucumber being listed well up the ingredients. When it arrived I was slightly worried but dived forkfirst in. Oh boy was it tasty. It turns out if you drown cucumber in tahini and olive oil and onions and herbs it no long tastes like watery grass.

We shared our mains, Fattah with Chicken and Hummus Fattah with Kofta. We were in no way prepared for the portion sizes. The underneath the chicken and rice there was also a flatbread. The hummus dish was the favourite though. It was all stirred together with lots of pieces of what I think must have been fried flatbread made with masa harina, as it had that distinctive corn taco flavour. It was really very delicious.

Breakfast was a Belvita blueberry soft bake bar. No pictures but they’re a very decent light breakfast flapjack.

We’re out for lunch but it’s at 2.00 so I will hopefully be snacking on some leftover pizza before we leave.

  • Defrost the rest of the curry that I stuck in the freezer the other day
  • Break the law by way of getting a second takeaway in one weekend and get a curry from a new place that might be amazing
