I’ve just started re-reading it (bought after seeing the film, which was good but not a patch on the book, I think). I see what Caitlin Moran means about Withnail with women, but that feels underselling it rather. As characters, Laura and Tyler are captivating, although a real-life Tyler would scare me a bit. I’m a big fan. Even when the book doesn’t quite work for me, Unsworth is always an interesting writer. I’ll forgive a lot in an author like that.
