@Kallgeese too

Ok, would you swear them all to secrecy or would you be happy for word to trickle out?

Do you think this would create a problematic divide between friends that know and friends that don’t?

hmm. not sure. considering I’d be trying to help many of them out and by the time people are gone most of the money would be spent and/or invested then I’m not so concerned. If people get upset that I have chosen to do what I see fit with £1m then they would be exactly proving why they aren’t closer friends/weren’t told before?

Also it’d get out when I move to a nicer house that I can’t afford on my salary and have more disposable income than before (I’m absolutely keeping my job for the time being and not getting giddy over a million)

My family wouldn’t tell a soul, same with my GF. The only friends I’d tell know that they couldn’t say anything to anyone. I’m a very private person and really careful with who I say anything to. I suppose people would guess it after they saw me swanning around with my €5,000 guitars.

No, there wouldn’t be a divide. My friends know me and would understand why I wouldn’t tell everyone.

It sounds bad, but how far does a million go nowadays? Be nice to buy my siblings a place each, or clear their mortgage, but there’s 5 of us and a million quid is gonna get pretty much fuck all in London sadly.

Depends what you want, not a mansion, certainly a flat.

You’ve got a choice between a 3 bed terraced house in London or an entire street elsewhere.

  1. Make a dubstep album
  2. Buy a beanbag
  3. Buy a slice of toast

I’d consider getting the papers round actually if additional money was involved.

It goes quite a long way even now. What’s interesting me about this thread though is that even though everyone could do with a million quid it means very different things to people of different ages. In my twenties I guess I’d be suggesting things like spreading it around my friends and family too, but the fact now is my family and friends don’t need any financial help and large sums of money tend to be earmarked for boring things like annuities. If I won a million it’d set me up very well for the rest of my life, but nobody I know would expect or ask for more than a few rounds down the pub to be honest.

and watch the evening news!

Yep that’s my missing item number three. A big one too.

innit. People who are saying they would quit their job I am pretty surprised at. If it’s something proper shit and it gives you the time to find something else then I get it, but it’s not ‘never work again’ money, is it?

I mean, I would quit my job, but that’s because I don’t really like it. I would get another one, but it’d mean you could do something you actually wanted to do

Think I could easily spread £600k until I’m 65 or w/e retirement age becomes (as if I’d make 65)

how long do you think your million would last?

  • the rest of your life
  • get a good couple decades out of it
  • few years prob
  • spaff it by the end of the year tbh

A million would easily do me for the rest of my life. My mortgage and pension are pretty much paid up so that million would basically just have to pay my bills for ten years. And I think I could scrape by on £100K per year. If I won the lottery I would be resigning the next day.

love the idea of somehow racking up 100 grand in bills per year.

‘Come on, Morrisette! Is that ironic enough? Can you do more ironic?’

That’s fair enough, I still rent, as does my sister and we both (and my mum) have debts. As I would be sorting all that out, the million would be down considerably pretty quick, as well as wanting to set up my partners fitness studio.

Realistically to have ‘quit your job money’ (especially as I don’t hate my job, and being able to spend some of that money on surgery I need for my joints and Crohn’s, or holidays or something more luxurious before taking early retirement, rather than quitting straight away and retiring) I would probably only start thinking like that after more than 1m. I don’t know. Like 4 or 5? I’ve not cost it up, it could be less.

Tbf though I could then also retire and do something productive with anything left over?
