Hi

I don’t really have anything to post, but feel compelled to do so nonetheless.

I went to Platform at the Arches today. It is clear that it needed to exist with all the white middle class hipsters having kids and stuff. Luckily, the Shwarmarama things i had was to die for. Holy shit. Def going back.

Got Tim Horton’s too, so all is well.

Tonight I have three episodes of my podcast to record. Might batter them out. See how that goes.

Feel like tonight is a good night to show you some work on a map I’ve been doing.

Thats the first one. Just a basic city centre Glasgow style layout.

After an hour I’ve added some detail and made some changes to the road network. Also, that’s a railway line under the city if you can understand. What I like to try and do is imagine the reasons roads have been changed. Hopefully you can see that there is intentional roads being cut up, and through lines from “old” streets that have been changed, modified, and fucked about with. The idea is to make it as organic as possible.

Added loads of detail now. Lanes, houses, a few special buildings. The ornate library, for example. That’s a concert hall at the top left, or an old Music Hall. And the great big dirty city centre shopping centre has a smattering of shops. I like going back over my old maps from ten or fifteen years ago - they have Woolworths, MFIs and Comets in them, all long gone from the real high street.

Top right corner with loads more detail. Love this part actually. The intricate roads and one way systems are important. I’ve also added a two way against the flow cycle path in, and will add loads more over time.

So yeah that’s been around three hours work.

honestly, i don’t know. i’ve been drawing maps like this for literally decades, so I guess there must be but I started to draw them before i learned how to multiply, so yeah.

I guess it helps i’ll literally spend hours looking at Google Maps too?

If you find them on Instagram (@mapsbysheeldz) you can pinch and zoom in on them. That’s why I use that platform.
