I don’t think you need to be torn until it’s an actual option…I.e. they’ve offered you the job. Like you say, you don’t have to take it. And you may not even like it as much when you go there!

Going for a haircut, but I’m worried I’m gonna trek across London and find my hairdresser is still off sick!

@Scagden oooft that sounds like a tough one. I’d enquirer about the local place, but don’t feel obliged to take it if you have any alarm bells going off.

When’s the deadline? Could you arrange a look round to get an idea about the size of the challenge?

You obviously know what you’re doing in the classroom but the vibe from the school could make or break it.

I’m telling you stuff you already know. The advice of a failed former English teacher is not what you need.

The other school is great by all accounts but I think it will be tricky to come in as head of department. With my current job I was a teacher for five years and knew everyone before getting the hod job. I think it’s very different coming in as a stranger and getting to get an established department to change some of what they’re doing.

I’m basically worried that they’ll hate and resent me :roll_eyes:

Yeah what the others have said, may as well follow up and see where it goes.

An hour commute doesnt seem much for a job you love. I commute an hour+ to plenty of jobs that i hate!

I think it would be different if I could go on the train and read or something but it’s two hours driving which means I’m normally out of the house from 7am to 630pm which is a lot for a teaching job. And I don’t really like driving or even owning a car tbh

Had to go to a careers advice seminar thing at work before Christmas and the person running its job seemed to be to basically trigger a mass existential crisis. They basically went on for an hour about how everyone had just drifted into their job (true) and that there’d be younger cheaper people coming to take everyone’s job soon (also true).

At the end we had to write a letter to ourselves about how we were going to sort our careers out. Looking forward to getting that.

Need to find a better job.
