HUGE drop off fee? Is that only if you drop the car in a different state?

this is ridiculously organized, i organize mine about a few weeks in advance, unless your limiting this thread to january 2017 then maybe you can get away with it

Booked so far:

Iceland in March (birthday weeend)
Berlin at Easter
Kiev for Eurovision
Lisbon / Porto / Primavera / Stiges / Barcelona / Sonar mega trip in June.

Sounds good!

Yeah it’s a flat £500 plus US taxes after conversion

We split the driving 50/50 as we’re both pretty confident. I’d defo cover less ground next time as it meant we had to rush in a few places and got to Austin quite knackered!

I probs wouldn’t go back to the US without a car now as we proper missed it even when we were in a city and dropped it off early. San Fran is ace. Bf did a few days in Yosemite on his last US trip and he said it was the best so we’ll prob go back to do that.

Lake Garda is beautiful in April but cold. Wonderful place though. Where you staying? North or South end?

In the past we’ve flown into a city, had a few days there and then picked up the car to drive on to other place, handing the car back before spending a few days in the new place.

We did:
East coast: Boston>Pick up car from Logan Airport and drive to JFK>New York>Pick up car from Newark Airport and drive to Union Station>Washington DC (10 nights)

and west coast:
San Fran>Pick up car from SF airport>Yosemite>Santa Cruz>Santa Barbara>Santa Monica>Las Vegas>Grand Canyon>Santa Monica. (15 nights)

The only city where we really needed a car was Los Angeles, we found.

Going to Japan next year, but dates not firmly booked yet.

Trying to see if I can cram a quick last minute trip to Vienna at the end of this month. My friend is putting on an exhibition/series of events for her PhD and it’d be great to see her and go to some of her events. I didn’t book to go because I didn’t know if I’d be free or not in advance.

Hoping I’ll have finished my exams to be able to go with my friends to We Built The World fest in Berlin. Really should go to some places in DE that aren’t Berlin, tbh.

Would also like to do a trip around the Balkans, maybe to see some coastline/national parks.

We did the same thing when we got to Austin. We dropped it off then had 3 days there. I think its because we had it for like 2 weeks and then we were finding it a hassle to get cabs (to be fair we were staying in North Austin and not in the centre)

Has anyone done Malaysia or KL or the Tioman Island?
It’s a contender.

Did you see the bats??

Oh yuck. Wasn’t aware the price was that high, we’re planning on driving from San Francisco to Seattle next year. Not going to discourage us but will mean a bit less spending money I guess.

Not when they flew because we had a weird schedule and didn’t make it down there for the time but we did kayak under the bridge and heard them all chattering away.
Also saw a big turtle whilst kayaking which was cool.

Yeah, it’s pretty pricey to drop off in another location but tbh its so worth it. We had a convertible mustang and when we were booking it, I was all “do we really need that?” but when I got in it and drove it with the roof down though some wicked places, I was like ok this is worth it.

Apart from severely burning my parting.

Yeah we want to go to National Parks and the wine country so don’t think Greyhound buses will cut it. Crashed the last rental car I got too so going to invest in zero excess too.

Yes.

Don’t bother with KL. Massive Asian cities are pretty crap IMO. Malaysia has so much more to offer. The Perhentian islands! BORNEO! The Cameroon Highlands! Do those instead.

Honeymoon for me next year! Doing a mini Euro tour so:

3 nights in Vernazza,
1 night in Florence (visiting a friend),
3 nights in Rome,
3 nights in Lisbon (taking in the Feast of St Anthony - meeting up with 4 friends to have a massive party)
4 nights in San Sebastian.

Also putting money aside for going to watch England Cricket in Sri Lanka in 2018. I’m well excited!

Sri Lanka is amazing, and my friend did a couple of England tests out there a few years ago and said it was great fun
