Yeah I’ll watch but doubt I’ll get far. Need to be up sharp tomorrow.

What times the actual kick off?!

11.30 GMT, though there will be usual national anthem bollocks too. Matches tend to take 2 and a half to three hours, but given halftime show it will finish somewhere between 2.30-3 (no overtime providing)

I think nfl is actually a really great sport but the stop start nature of it does put me off a bit.
And the halftime show is fucking ridiculous

The halftime show is half the fun!

I genuinely don’t notice the stop-start thing (although this does mark 10 years of watching) because they fill those gaps with replays/analysis

just dusting off my banta hat in preparation for tonight’s inevitable beatdown.

Just the usual ‘I don’t like sportsball, me’ smuggery you get when the Super Bowl comes round (taken to an even bigger extreme this time)

Yeah there’s usually so much going on during a play that it’s kind of good to be able to dissect them immediately. Helps you see more of the intricacies of the game in real time rather than after the fact.

Going to be watching at home with a Domino’s Winter Survival Deal as is tradition. Had the day booked off (in case the Rams made it), but have binned that now. Will sleep before and during half time and then just slog through work as best I can.

Hoping we have a good game tonight though, really. We’ve had some good ones recently after a few stinkers.

Considering all the blowouts in the 80s and 90s, we’ve been lucky to have so few since the early 2000s. Even the low quality games generally stay close to the fourth quarter.

Pretty sure I won’t be watching tonight. Gutted, but I think it’s for the best. Haven’t slept well for like a month thanks to a sleepless baby, and have been ill the past two weekends. Even with a lie-in tomorrow, it feels unrealistic.

Having said this, baby will probably wake up screaming at 2am so maybe I’ll tune in for a dramatic finale.

Probs all the military wanking. Could say the same about every American sport tbf, the NFL does seem to take it to the next level, though.

Buzzfeed reporting Prince hologram has been DROPPED

The Kareem Abdul-Jabbar article in the Guardian on Saturday was supoib.

Didn’t realise such a low percentage of quarterbacks were black (20% v 70% across all positions).

Massively #irked by some footage in the advert for this claiming the Superbowl was the “main event” of all sports. I mean surely the world cup finals, 100m olympic finals and at least a third of the world heavyweight boxing matches are above this. Actually would probably put the CL finals over this most years too.

I mean they probably couldn’t have fit that in the advert but still.

Also imagine the sort of neediness required to attach yourself to the New England Patriots. Imagine.

I’m in tonight. First game. I’m watching this year.

Not sure which ad you’re referring to- if it’s from the US then I’d guess that they’re following their tried and tested use of world ‘world’ when they really mean ‘in the US’. It gets a huge audience, but as an annual event, the CL final would be bigger I think. The Olympics, World Cup would be much bigger, but aren’t annual. Not sure about heavyweight boxing though, unless you’re not taking about the current era.

I think it was a BBC ad that had cut up vocal clips from genuine US commentators, so everybody is to blame.

Just looked it up and the CL has around 200m more viewers than the SB but the SB makes much, much more money due to broadcasting deals with the American networks in particular which I guess is what counts to them.
