I donāt have anything to add on the icons other than to say I think Scoutās contributions are particularly valuable.
But I do have two things on my head about the āself-fundingā talk going on.
Thereās been a general consensus of understanding some people arenāt in a position to donate whilst also saying that people havenāt been donating enough. So it ends up seeming like a āpoor passā. I can envisage that at times Iām not able to contribute I would feel bad posting about having bought something or about financial commitments I have - that people would think āwell, youāre clearly not poor, so why arenāt you donatingā.
People contribute to this forum in different ways. Some people have worked tirelessly to address sexism and racism, others contribute by always supporting people who are having a hard time, some volunteer their own time as moderators or rainy day fund seminars. Those contributions are incredibly valuable in their own way.
The second point is I appreciate not very comfortable. If the vision is to have an entirely self - funding forum, what issues come out of that. That is, to have users pay for the forum entirely, but have no ownership of it and no direct say in how it is managed from a business stand point, what happens to content etc. That one day it could just be taken down with no consultation, or old threads not removed that could save considerable hosting money.
