Aye this was true until he yelled out “excuse me, Not All Men!”, cringe
can’t remember that bit actually., haven’t seen 8 in a while. i never warmed to him to the extent of liking him really but stopped hating him intensely
I didn’t like Ed Gamble, with his mix of smugness and cringing desperation for good boy points from Avalon daddy.
Rhod Gilbert grated a bit, but was also really funny so it evened out.
oh yeah i did find him really dislikeable at times actually but good value at times as well
I often am softened by an unlikable person who actually laughs at other’s jokes. Gamble and Beckett are good examples
ideal lineup of past contestants to bring back for a CoC style special?
i’m going Tim Key, Bob Mortimer, Mike Wozniak, Aisling Bea, Rose Matafeo
(we’ve probably done this before)
I’d swap Aisling for Sally Phillips but otherwise that would probably be mine.
I would maybe prefer Joe Wilkinson or Paul Chowdhry over Rose in terms of my favourites, but wouldn’t want a 4 male lineup.
aye Sally Philips is an ATD
thought lee mack came across well on the podcast, said nice things about all the other contestants. really like him now
still not that keen on the podcast though even though i keep listening to it
I like the podcasts when it’s clear the guest is a fan of the show, either before or after they were on it. Find they just bring more enthusiasm and insight.
I drift off when a guest is a bit “oh yeah, I didn’t know what it was and my agent said…”
Yeah, it’s main purpose is to keep me nicely paced to one a week (of the old ones) so I don’t get sick of them. If the guest’s right, it can great - but if it’s someone with little to do with the series, or who just isn’t that funny, I zone out a bit
I’m always surprised how, like, not funny the podcast is? It’s extremely pleasant and an easy listen, but there’s never been any time where I’ve thought “bloody hell this is a laugh”. It’s a nice little dessert for the episode gone, I guess, but it’s never an essential listen.
I think some of the guests have been quite funny. The Greg episode in particularly was very funny in parts.
Yeah that was good and I really liked Jayde Adams who should really be on the next series.
The rest though have been pretty flat, but that might just be a product of having to do it over Zoom nowadays, and contestants having to talk about a show they filmed ages and ages ago and have no real current connection to.
Thought Wozniak’s was very funny the other week, and I remember laughing at some of Romesh and Key’s anecdotes. And Katherine Parkinson trying to take her luggage through airport security in a plastic bag.
Sometimes it’s just a nice chat though yeah, but I’m still a lot less interested in the guests who have never been on the show.
didn’t like her one bit, she’d barely seen the show either different strokes
I find these quite interesting. It’s a different view that the gushing fans who have been imagining how they’d do tasks themselves.
In fact the doc Brown episode where he said he hated the whole thing, having agreed to do it out of loyalty to Alex, is probably the most interesting insight into the show.
I found that interesting too, and their reasons for doing it, but almost as a seperate bit.
Where it gets a bit awkward is when they then do a deep dive into the tasks on the series and you can tell the guest just wasn’t that arsed about it. Then Gamble (who I like) will say something like “Oh yeah x done the same as you in a later series…” and the convo just falls flat because he gets nothing back. Guess ultimately the guest just doesn’t have the same level of excitement/ enthusiasm to be talking about the minutiae.
Mike Wozniak telling Ed to calm down about the scoring, as he was missing the point and Gregg is probably doing it deliberately now to wind up the people complaining amused me.
