What a guy
don’t think this is true of this show at all, it’s the opposite to most panel shows in that everyone gets a turn and gets their time to shine.
nature’s luzzer
he’s top 10 but doesn’t come close to Mortimer, Wozniak or Key imo.
Finished season 4. Absolutely loved Mel, and loved the Mel and Hugh duo.
Watched the first episode of season 5 and loved the first task the special cuddle, especially the sex robot and the sensual chocolate cake hug.
Wasn’t that impressed with Mortimer in the first episode, so will be pleased if he gets better!
Mortimer is (imo) not consistently great, but had some real stand out and excellent moments!
It was definitely true of this episode. Just comedians being smug together laughing at each other’s jokes.
hugely disagree but maybe you need to be more familiar with the rhythms of the show
also isn’t laughing at each other’s jokes a good thing, and the opposite of trying to out-ego each other?
It just ends up being fairly insular because we’re not finding it as funny.
that’s ok but i don’t think it’s smug when funny people find each other funny
i used to find it really jarring when you’d watch people on Mock the Week sit stony faced through other comedians’ material, seemed a much more unpleasant and ego-driven environment
It’s feels smug when it’s only them finding it funny.
Mock the Week is an odd one. I think a lot of the time people are doing the stony face thing to try to unnerve the storyteller and make them trip up which is a valid tactic, IMO
there’s a whole audience there finding it funny though
are you thinking of Would I Lie to You?
Oh yeah I am thinking of Would I Lie to You. Never really liked Mock the Week. More of a middle class News Quiz guy ![]()
(There is a whole audience finding shows funny regardless of how funny they actually are when you’re watching them on TV. People in audiences laugh at Michael Mcintyre, FFS!)
stopped listening to the News Quiz cos almost every week there’s some dipshit journalist who you’ve witnessed being a relentless dickhead on twitter all week
Yeah TBF I haven’t listened in years. These days I’m not sure I could take much in the comedy TV/Radio circuit as so many of them have outed themselves as centrist melts. ![]()
This is a very fair read of the News Quiz though for my money it’s improved with Andy Zaltzman hosting the recent series. Though my opinion of it is definitely more positive as a result of it sharing a BBC podcast with the Now Show, which seems to be recorded in a parallel universe which is identical to our own except that people there think Hugh Dennis is funny.
Now Show used to be alright but, it’s became unlistenable in the 5 or 6 years since they have had to have right wing comedians on. Unfunniest fuckers in the world.
Pretty much only tune into the News Quiz for more Zaltzman
I stopped listening when Jupp left, decided to give it another go the other day because I quite like Zaltzman but I looked through the episode list and almost every episode had someone objectionable on. Ended up picking an episode from a month ago and it was all about the Super League so felt proper out of date already.
