no, I mean my point still holds regardless of where they do or do not pay VAT.

Death of Diana and Concorde rolled into one.

i don’t understand people talking as if this is really life changing and inconvenient. hasn’t uber only been around a couple of years? what they fuck did you do before then?

loads of normal taxi companies have apps too, just download those.

haven’t read most of the thread.

same with Belfast.

i downloaded the uber app when they were doing that day where a driver would bring you ice cream. turned out all the ice cream had run out so i deleted it again immediately.

Weirdest thing about this is the amount of people pretending they’re ever out at 4am or 6am. I’m always pissed, full of takeaway and in bed fully clothed by about 11pm.

That petition. A new low even for middle class London living psychopaths.

ubers going to ditch all their drivers for driverless cars as soon as they can anyway as it’s the only way they’ll be able to make a profit without raising their prices to what a real company charges.

I’ve used them a few times in Glasgow, super cheap but taxis aren’t that expensive there anyway so didn’t always bother

Amazed at the outrage and number of petition signatures.

It’ll be that or if they can’t get driverless cars in time, kill the competition and jack up prices.

Good read:

Not really sure anyone in here’s defended Uber at all tbqh, this mess is their fault

Yeah I’ve seen a few “save me from the nightbus!!!1!! lol” shares of the petition too, very weird indeed

Well I wouldn’t say that not wanting to get the nightbus is a weird stance to have on this. I definitely wouldn’t get the nightbus home after a night out as I don’t feel safe/will probably get vommed on and would mean standing outside somewhere on my own for a long time waiting for the next connecting nightbus to take me home and then walking from the bus to my house. That’s just not happening for me at 2am for safety reasons only.

No way meo, an Uberless London is a travel utopia.

Good strawman, bro.

I followed all of this for a bit on twitter this weekend and it was notable how many people a) with disabilities and b) from ethnic minorities were saying about how uber’s helped make travel in London, and I guess London itself, more accessible for them.

Yeah. I mean you can take two routes on it - you can go in on TfL about it or you can go in on uber about it.

Yeah I find the worries over safety/accessibility of public transport a bit beside the point (if troubling) when literally all tfl need is for uber to do a bit of basic safety changes

Except when you’re a wheelchair user, it is the central point.

I’m not pro-uber in this, just there are other perspectives in the debate which I hadn’t considered before and which extend beyond “millennials are crying they have to get a night bus” or whatever.
