Everyone at the start was really down on it, maaaaaaan

Generally a case of people who weren’t into their normal sound enjoying them, I thought. That’s fine btw, I just mean that is shy I thought it got so much praise.

Somebody was friendly with Montag?

Strawberry Jam was loads better

I’ve never heard it so I will put it on and see what it’s like.

Probably going to revisit it at some point in the next few days and see what I reckon now.

Really liked it for a bit. Went off it massively after seeing that car crash green man set for some reason. Haven’t listened to it for ages now, might chuck it on at some point soon

Got as far as track 9 and had to turn it off. Awful album.

What a clusterfuck that was. A mediocre live act who make incredibly awkward headliners anyway turning in the worst performance of their careers

It’s no Strawberry Jam though.

Remember someone I was at that with saying “naww they’re just experimenting”, then in the end-of-year NME Panda Bear said it was his lowlight of the year as he’d got really drunk beforehand.

Genuinely the worst headline set I’d ever seen all of, until I saw Future Islands the other year.

Think I desperately tried to defend it at the time, for a few hours at least

Probably my favourite band 2005-2010. Looking back it was only two and a half great records and some good EPs but it felt like they were on an endless run at the time. I think that’s why people got carried away with MPP (PF giving it a 9.6 for example) because everyone was willing it to be as good as Feels and SJ, myself included, but ultimately it was just decent with one or two great tracks.

It doesn’t surprise me that they’re not universally lauded these days, fashions change etc and their records this decade have been noticeably weaker. Also, AC always had a cringey element to them (some dreadful record covers and song titles, the pseudo-druggy imagery, the skater music vids, and terrible dress sense) but i was somehow able to overlook that kind of thing and in my eyes at the time i thought they were the most colourful, exciting and innovative (whilst still remaining as listenable as any rock band) band about. They also soundtracked some great (and terrible) moments of my young life, and its fun to think back to the ridiculous competition on message boards back then to hear the record before everyone else and have an instant opinion and feel smug and in the know.

Was almost certainly a record he would have tagged as ‘odious’

Didn’t get into this record until about 2013. Remembering trying My Girls about once every 6 months to see what the fuss was about. Would never get past the intro without thinking “Jesus, is this what everyone’s on about?” and turning it off.

Wasn’t until about 4 years later until somebody else played it he whole way through that I realised it picked up pace and became turned into an actual banger about a minute in

I tell you what hasnt aged though - TV On The Radio’s “Return To Cookie Mountain”

Also a band who seemed to have lost a lot of stock though. Was pleased to see Dear Science get a write up on Pitchfork a couple of months back. One of those albums that was overhyped initially and then became unfairly dismissed/underrated

Fuck, had totally forgotten about TV On The Radio

Thought Dear Science was shite tbh

Aye, seems the general opinion, but I disagree. Think Cookie is better but not by a long way

After that they went pretty dad rock though
