stayed up last night to watch Muguruza - Osaka, it was good. Mugu was the better player for most of the match but then Naomi brought out another level from MP down to win it

also, Su-Wei Hsieh reaching her first slam QF at age 35! oldest player in the open era to do that.

chuffed for her, such a fun and unique player

Yeah, I thought Muguruza had weathered the storm to hold for 5-3 in the final set, but I wasn’t prepared for what happened next, especially as Osaka had been hitting quite a few unforced errors up to that point. Wish we could’ve got two more sets of that

Bottom half of both draws is much better than the top half
hope Barty makes the most of her soft draw. hope Dimitrov somehow makes the final ahead of Djokovic or Zverev
Hsieh has a decent record against Osaka, could trouble her if she’s not dialled in.

really hope so, would love it to be Stef but would also take a Medvedev win. worried they’ll knacker eachother in the semi while Djokovic has a near walkover vs Karatsev. Karatsev’s been playing well though so who knows

I think the bright side to look on is whatever happens Djokovic isn’t going to face another player who’s scared of him in this tournament. Not been keeping tabs on his injury, but presumably if it’s still there then it’ll affect his game.

A really important moment in Tsitsipas’ career. Shook off a lot of demons with that win, and played really well too! Nadal’s level only dipped a little, and there were some great rallies.

That said, I can’t see past a Djokovic-Medvedev final. The way Rublev’s game was made to look so toothless was something, and Medvedev’s getting on that sort of roll where you forget how to lose.

Re. the women’s tournament, anything can happen (see Barty’s inexplicable collapse today) but I do feel like the Osaka-Williams match is the unofficial final. My money’s on Osaka but I think, if Serena’s going to win, she’ll have to do it in straight sets. Naomi’s such a canny matchplayer right now
