  • When someone turns on TV news and the report starts at exactly the right moment
  • When they decide they’ve had enough of the very relevant and informative news report and turn it off before it finishes

These are just clichés really, sorry.

Prometheus is still a better film than Alien Covenant.

Mind you, it’s like comparing types of dogshit.

Life after Beth always struck as being particularly bad as far as actually having coherent plot since it’s never actually explained where the Zombies come from, they mention briely that someone at the school knew voodoo (I think) but otherwise it’s a completely open question that’s never answered

Agreed. Like two cheeks of the same arse.

Don’t know anyone else who has seen that

That said, I don’t think it’s main focus is adding to zombie lore :slightly_smiling_face:

Yeah this was pretty much my takeaway although it kind of makes the story feel weirdly incomplete particularly since the outbreak/zombies invasion essentially ends for no reason as well.

You’re thinking of the Usual Suspects

Fair :+1:

Similarly, at the end of Lethal Weapon, Martin Riggs (currently suspended from the force pending investigation into his mental state) has just murdered the last person who could corroborate his version of events.

How in fuck’s name is he still a cop on the sequel?

It was a Mac, and apparently that was the joke.

I’d forgotten about the Airwolf flying into space one.

Brilliant

in american war films when one of the soldiers initially hates whatever country he’s firebombing but then he’ll meet an iraqi with a guns and roses CD and the moral is we’re not so different after all, so they team up to defeat the really evil iraqi or whatever

this is more of a trope. what’s the diff between a trope and a plot device please.

That one is my favourite - absolutely amazing.

Naa, it was a PC, because Goldblum beats Will Smith’s Freecell high score in a deleted scene.

A trope is a recurring feature of a genre or medium, a plot device is a story point which exists solely to move things along… I think.

Plot devices and tropes oft overlap, not all tropes or plot devices are automatically bad. Much online film criticism extends as far as ‘I have noticed something, and so the film is bad’ and it irks me. The noticing of plot devices and/or tropes can be a fun and affectionate exercise.

Star Trek: Into Darkness

Takes them days to get to Kronos at warp but when they have to make the return journey chasing the Vengeance back to earth they manage to get there in just a few minutes.
