Trying to figure out exactly what this place is. The flat itself is bleak as hell (you know they’re clutching at straws when the fifth picture is of the communal bike racks) but the development appears to be a new build on an industrial estate? That’s over a mile from anything? For £725 a month?

My guess is it’s some sort of show home (lol -home) that a builder or property developer has built at their office but no longer need so they’re renting it out !?

Screams student accommodation to me - the it room, that lounge. Assume it can’t be filled with students atm so it’s going to the open market. No idea why it’s in an industrial estate though!

Gross. Really at a loss trying to figure out who it’s for, it’s miles from either uni, the station or any of the big employers. Can’t stress enough how little there is to do in that bit of Bristol.

Usually people who have essentially no choice in our horrible housing system.

A quick google tells me (a) the owner has form for these types of schemes and (b) Bristol council have been using it to house homeless people.

Are there safety checks/measures/surveys in place for when people convert stuff like this into housing now? I’ve no doubt there’s going to be a wave of weird looking office conversions this year but eg fire regulations in an office or industrial estate I guess are different from when someone is actually living there.

Councils have some ability to set matters for approval, but it’s done via a permitted development right, which is (in effect) a national grant of planning permission, so they’re minor technical matters rather than the bigger questions around suitability of use.

The law has been changed a bunch of times, there are now requirements for natural light and soon (or maybe already, dunno when it actually comes in) they’ll have to meet a national minimum space standard (which is pretty decent iirc). That’ll mean new stuff like this can’t happen, but isn’t backdated or anything.

They’re all subject to building regs checks I believe. I don’t know much about that really, although it’s very much technical safety issues and again doesn’t cover suitability of use.

This advert’s a weird one. For the price (Lol London) it’s not the worst 1 person flat, and in the before times would have suited someone with an active social life ok. But in the photos it’s set up as a 2 bed, and jesus that’s a brutally tight space for two people.

As I;m writing this, I’m wondering if the answer is former AirBnB.

Would be surprised if that was an Airbnb, I’ve spent so long on Rightmove that I can spot them a mile off now. Looks more like just a space some underpaid zero hours workers were forced to share. Not terrible but definitely on top of each other.

One of them effectively doesn’t get a bedroom or any privacy so it is pretty terrible imo

To be fair, it is advertised as a 1 bed flat. It could be that it’s just the current tenants that have set it up as a two bed

Doesn’t look like there’s a lock on the main door so my guess is it’s just part of someone’s house rather than a self contained flat. Doesn’t seem to be any heating either. Has to be something wrong with it at that price anyway.

It’s listed as flat 6 so it probably is an actual flat rather than just someone’s spare room (you’d hope)
