I used to work in conveyancing and the number of professional landlords we dealt with who had this exact business model/theory was truly depressing. I always felt a bit deflated when Iā€™d get another London-area clientā€™s file buying a property in Derby or Bradford which they would likely never go within 50 miles of.

Thereā€™s a lot of people do that where i live- they buy a flat to air bnb, but expect that they can somehow get someone local to do all the cleaning and checking in and out for free or almost nothing.

Or air bnb landlords in the pandemic thinking they can rent out the flat to tenants, but somehow get the same money back (with the right to throw them out the second tourists are allowed back)
