It’s not a man thing, hence my putting it here. :grinning:

As @froglet points out, you have much more control if your turning is happening at the back of the vehicle hence you reverse parallel park (as my instructor told me, although I’d already had it explained to me years back when I asked as a kid).

You have more control but also much less vision. You wouldn’t choose to reverse through a traffic controlling pinch point.

You don’t need to see very much though, generally just 2 parked cars/white lines and the back of the space

Another vote here for reversing in. I’ll only nose in if I need good access to the boot (eg at the supermarket). So much easier than trying to reverse out with people walking by/cars bombing around

Thats why you reverse in, surely?

Cos otherwise you end up reversing out of the bay completely blind.

Hold your breath and hope for the best. Beep beep motherfuckers!

@jont2001 raises a good point about boot access, I pretty much always need to get a pram out of the boot so tend to park in a way that makes that easy.

Yep I’m another vote for reversing into a space instead of reversing out. Its just as simple for me as its much easier/less stressful to do it that way round.

I suppose that makes sense, given quite a lot of spaces your reversing up to another vehicle or a hedge or something else that makes access awkward.

You’d expect them to think about that when they design the car park, but I suppose it’s just a case of cramming in as many spaces as they can.

More places should have angled bays, but you probably lose like two spots per row

That’s not why I reverse in. I reverse in because it’s easier to get the angle right and easier to correct it if you don’t

Yeah, that too. Easier to get in, easier to get out.

Obviously if it’s a big park I look for the ease of two empty bays back to back so I can go in forwards and stop on the second bay ready to leave forwards

I find reversing out of a spot so much easier than reversing in. Hate hate hate reversing in. Parallel parking is a doddle in comparison.

Presumed this was American where all their parking spots are super roomy so no need to reverse.

(I always reverse in, much easier)

If there’s no chance of a parking space where I can roll in and then get out forwards too then I’m taking the train.

Doing a driving lesson today and am worried I’ll forget which end of the car is which

Another vote for Davidoff Cool Mecanum Wheels, would buy any car with these

It’s also much safer to reverse in as it means you’ll be driving out forwards so are less likely to hit any other pedestrians, cars etc. Also my former boss (who was also a self-defence instructor) advocated it for women in particular because it made it easy to get away quickly if someone followed you into a car park.
