yeah, me too! popped it on yesterday, mainly due to this thread, and really enjoyed it
I can imagine 6music are all over this like a rash
It works well as a continuous album for me. Really enjoyed it whilst out for a run!
probably put it as their album of the day or something
right I’m going in. this had better be worth my time.
They did the other day
Hang on, Further was the one that sampled a neighing horse wasn’t it? I fear you need to be more ruthless with your definitions of novelty samples.
New album is great, just to echo what everyone else is saying.
Just sounds like the rest of their stuff
God that horse thing was truly terrible. Stopped listening to them pretty much because of that (until this one)
sounds like a good Chemical brothers album, well put together an it sounds quite natural. Would probably enjoy live under the correct circumstances. that written, I left them midway through a set last year because it was a bit samey and I’m not sure how much this would do to change that.
I quite like it on first playthrough, and it’s weirdly reminiscent of the last Avalanches, though I may have got that the wrong way round.
I read that they found all the old gear they used to make their first two records in an attic, so used it to make this. From what I have heard so far (and judging by how I liked their first two but little of the rest), smart move.
I can’t imagine anyone walking away from a Chems live set. Where’s that ‘when is the last time you gasped’ thread?
Wanted to see a bit of Slowdive to be honest, and even though for one reason or another i should have been more up for The Chems, Slowdive were more enjoyable. Might have just been that they were a change of pace, or one of my favourite bands or that the Chems are just fine.
‘We’ve Got To Try’ is a proper banger isn’t it?
Every song on this LP has a vocal. That’s just not what I want personally from the Chems. Horse Power rips a dance floor apart as does 2 or 3 others from Further.
The Chems got me into deep house. This LP is much further away from that sound. Not bad, just not for me.
I’ve tried to watch them 4 times over the last 18 year and walked away bored every time. They we’re terrible. I think it was Glasto 2001 was the last time I saw them be great.
“those boys can really press play!”
Just listening now, Free Yourself has put a massive smile on my face

Apparently they do a lot of it properly…
