He does this every 6 months or so. This thread catalogues a lot of his earlier shite in bed moments:

Find this one particularly enraging:

Didn’t find the 1st one about the nme a shit the bed moment but since the person posting it seems to be French and probably has never heard of Benidorm fair enough. The rest though fucking hell.

There’s a few in that thread that aren’t so bad, but he has done a lot of really stupid and horrible shit. Kissing that guy in Dubai springs to mind.

The majority just all seem to be various types of shittiness on a theme of having to get your opinion out there when you should just shut up.

Eugh

In the wake of this and the Lana del rey thing, it’s amazing to me that some people seemingly absolutely can’t help themselves.

Just know when to stop talking.

Had to laugh at him saying the other week he was going to stop doing interviews soon. You’re not though are you, you massive gobshite.

I really like the record as I said before, but he’s such a giant knob end and I just don’t fucking trust him.

Good old-fashioned slip of the mask with that line on ‘Roadkill’ sneering about being pulled up on his radio silence at the election

This seems like a really odd angle to me. What else are mixtapes other than stuff that just gets chucked together and doesn’t have much cohesion? How many great albums are just a bunch of killer tracks without any real connection between them? What are bside albums?

Really don’t see how it’s cynical to release a bunch of songs you made pulled together under the title of one project?

You’d have to point me to the specific projects you mean, because I can’t think of a single record/mixtape in history that’s tried to shoehorn in so many sporadic genre-skipping songs for no real reason or purpose in this way

What purpose does an album need beyond being a collection of songs? I guess that’s my more fundamental question

That’s in the eye of the beholder, sure, but in this case the execution has made the collection of songs seem so shallow and arbitrary that to me it’s to the detriment of the project as a whole

Again not sure why its arbitrary rather than just “varied”, but all personal as you said

because it’s done with absolutely no originality to it, no real exploration, nothing, it’s just pissing around imho

It’s gonna sound like I’m antagonising you which I’m really not trying to - but why is pissing around a bad thing? Would you think the songs were more original if they cut the album in half and only released the songs that were more similar to each other? I can’t see how that would make the pre-existing songs any better

And the originality part makes it sound like you just don’t like the music, beyond how it’s being presented

It’s literally all about the execution, you can have 45 minutes of free improvisation but if it’s good it’s good (and tbf a free jazz album will usually have a coherent thought running through it even if it’s a lineup or whatever).
It’s just that in this case what I dislike about the album is how by making shite songs in with dancehall beats one moment then a post-hardcore impression the next it basically makes the whole thing seem slight and arbitrary - a problem that wouldn’t really happen if they were good songs although the thing would seem ostentatious at this length in any event.

Have you ever liked any of The 1975s music?

Maybe listen to one track a week? Stick tight to those genres. Or, perhaps, don’t listen to it at all.
