was the “twist” actually supposed to be one? Because if so it was genuinely the worst kept one of all time. That aside, it was genuinely very creepy until the torture porn happened. Then it was just disgusting and not in any way good. Shame.
They freaked me the fuck out… I really dislike watching horror movies though. While watching some 2010 jump scare stuff I pulled a muscle in my leg from jumping so hard.
Finally watched Apocalypse Now. I’m 42, but it’s eluded me all this time. However, it’s one of those films where I know the key scenes and how it pans out generally. Probably doesn’t need saying, but it’s as good as all the hype. The scene where he finds Kurtz is a masterclass, the sound, the light and so on, it’s amazing.
Redux. I knew when I researched the versions that some people think scenes like the French plantation are not really needed, but I wanted to see the whole thing.
some of the scenes in the Redux (including the classic Charlie don’t surf bit) use different takes, so it’s pretty disorientating if you are used to the original
I prefer the original for what it’s worth - although the plantation scene is interesting to watch
First 20 minutes - pretty ropey
Last half hour - pretty ropey
Everything in between - pretty good
The scenes with Chris Pine and Gal Gadot are delightful, especially any of the stuff in London which had a lot of funny moments. I wish there’d been more of Lucy Davis and the rest of the team who go on the mission to the Western Front.
Apocalypse Now is one of those films that still has a.mythical feel I think but its so worth it. The opening acene of Martin Sheen genuinely hammered sets the tone. Such an odd film but amazing
